As it was finally revealed in the battle against Neherenia, Mars is Hino Rei's guardian star and she is also the Princess of this star. However, unlike Serenity, Rei and the other senshi are not given their names as Princess. Maybe that they did have princess' names when they in the past since they were reincarnated as different persons on Earth.

The past is not revealed to us. We can only guess how she was in Mars. And the Princess of Mars has her own unique identity, even having her very own guardians. Luna has always been an aide to Usagi, and so is Artemis to Minako. Rei's ravens, Phobos and Deimos are her guardians. (Named after the moons of Mars. Its origins are also traced to mythology which means, "Fear and Rout" after the attendants of Ares/Mars.) Her guardians were almost always present during the important events, especially during her reawakening as Sailormars, Also in the battle against Sailorcoronis where they transformed into their human forms. Her castle is also the Phobos Deimos castle.

And the Princess of Mars is truly worth remembering. Especially in the manga where she is known to be a "beautiful girl" whose presence enthralled everyone who saw her. But Rei did not wish to have anything to do with men. And it is this irony that makes Rei a very beautiful and interesting character indeed. It is true that she could be temperemental and 'bitchy,' still a part of her character that fans admire about her, something connected with her strength.
