20 Menso ni Onegai! is just about the cutest manga ever produced ;)
the main character is this third-grader named Ijuuin Akira. some may recognize him from CLAMP Campus Detective Agency. he is a cute little boy (with a bit of a sideburn problem, but cute nonetheless) who has TWO mothers. (somehow...) they are twins, named Mother A and Mother B. he has "inherited" his father's profession and become a notorious thief called 20 Menso (20 Masks)....or at least, I think that's what it is. in the Chinese translation they come up with something funky like..."strange thief of thousand faces" which really isn't it at all....
either way, they live in a mansion where he does ALLL the chores...cooking...cleaning....grocery shopping...running around like mad while his mothers just sit around and enjoy themselves. and whenever they see something on tv that they like, they will start screaming ecstatically, "AKIRA!!! GET THAT FOR US!!! WE WANT IT!!!" and then he will have to wear his little tuxedo and put on his little mask and go out and steal stuff for them although they ask for the stupidest things and they could very well afford to buy it themselves.
on one of his raids, he jumps into a random balcony to hide from the police (who are led by this really dumb guy who eats a lot, and never seems to be able to catch 20 menso though he always tries to be so careful) and meets a little kindergarten girl named Utako. she is very cute....and has a horrible temper. at the time she is complaining because she is in love with her kindergarten teacher, but her teacher says that there is too much of an age difference between them. (I'd say...like 17 years....) so she claims she is officially broken-hearted and trashes her room with her stuffed animals.
20 Menso, or Akira, and this little girl, Utako, sort of end up liking each other....and along the way they discuss the meaning of love...and what it is to actually like someone...and how to be strong...all these topics that seem to be much too "mature" for a third-grader and kindergartener....i think that's what makes this series so adorable.
in between the serious parts though...there are retardedly funny parts...where Akira's mothers dress up as dinosaurs and scare him to death....or where that dumb piggy guy is throwing a tantrum cuz he can't catch 20 Menso, and the policemen are all panting like rabid dogs from chasing 20 Menso up a gazillion flights of stairs.....and where Utako's friends pity 20 Menso for having the misfortune of meeting Utako...or Utako's mother beats Utako's father with a little mallet..hehehe
there should be an anime series for this since i've seen cards. i hope everyone goes out and buys this manga and loves it. ^_^ it's so CUTE!! gaaah!! eventually i'm going to do translations...so watch this space!
