Mizuiro Jidai, by Yu Yabuuchi, is about this girl named Yuuko and her transition period from child to adult. It involves physical changes (puberty, here we come) as well as things like making new friends, having a boyfriend, and dealing with all sorts of problems about school and family and friends. It doesn't really have a huge convoluted plot...it's more episodic...each episode describes a different problem or event in Yuuko's life as she matures. Her friends Hiroshi (the boy next door) and Takako are also involved. =)
I really love this manga series...I need to eventually see the anime. It's more a girl thing than a guy thing though, and it's very easy to identify with because I'm sure (all you girls out there reading this) that we've all gone through something that Yuuko's going through. Who hasn't agonized over being fat, or stressed out because you're sure the guy you like likes someone else, or had a hissyfit over test scores?
It's also pretty funny...like...her dad reminds me of my dad, especially when he ate up her specially-made-for-Hiroshi-chocolates....or sits in front of the tv all the time....yup, that's my dad for you...
