kitagawa miyuki always does these little VERY stereotypically shoujo series about romance...she did "Princess Army," which was a popular series that i'm not featuring here...but just so you know :)
1. Ami! Nonstop
Ami! Nonstop is about a girl named misasagi ami who's just a normal high school girl until one day she gets "discovered" by this weird show, like Pop! Station or something...after she gets discovered by this thing, she also meets some guy named Mizukami Nozomu, who's this really smart invalid who goes to her school...he's supposedly really really cute and all the girls are swooning over him. ami develops a semi-crush on him too, it seems, even though he makes some rather perverted comments about her underwear... ;)
anyway....there's this new duo (singing group) called "Darwin" that everyone's mad about...and ami doesn't know what's so great about them so she gets her father, who's a director or something in performing arts, to give her tickets to one of their concerts. once there though, she gets lost looking for an entrance and meets a cute guy named Midou Nozomu. later it turns out that he is part of "Darwin"....and because of him (she develops a crush on him) she decides to become a singer herself....
later she finds out that the two Nozomus are the same person....that the "invalid" at her school isn't really an "invalid"...he just has to miss a lot of school because he has to give concerts and stuff....and he doesn't want anyone to know who he really is...
then later they find out they like each other...and start going out...blahblahblah...all of it is basically repetition cuz the rest of the series is just about ami's rise to fame and like nozomu battling other guys for her, or her battling other girls for Nozomu....which she really doesn't have to do since you KNOW he's not going to leave her....Kitagawa Miyuki makes the sweetest guys...they're like perfect in every way ;) .......well, except that they're two-dimensional....
2. Tokyo Juliet is about a girl called Minori who aspires to be a fashion designer. supposedly she's _very_ talented...she goes to this special design school (she's her class rep because she topped the entrance exam scores) and meets this guy called Akira...she develops a crush on him and realizes that she met him when they were little kids and that he was her first crush....
the thing is, Minori is trying to beat this one designer, Eiji Hinagata. he's this evil-looking old man, who is now married to Minori's mother...! what happened was that Minori's father once aspired to become a fashion designer and entered in a design contest...Minori knew her mother loved chrysanthemums, so she (five years old at the time) drew some clothes with a chrysanthemum motif and stuck them into the envelope with her father's drawings. her father won the prize because of the chrysanthemums, but when shown the pictures he gave up the prize, because he had never drawn the chrysanthemum design...he wouldn't believe that five-year-old Minori had done them. Eiji Hinagata took the drawings for his own and made it big with the chrysanthemum design, which was basically his most popular design, even after he became famous...
because of her father's failure, Minori's mother and father were divorced. and then Minori finds out that Eiji Hinagata has married her mother(who is a fashion model)! she hates Eiji Hinagata for stealing her design, causing her father's failure, and stealing her mother, so she plans to like....i dunno, outdo him....steal his business....etc etc.
then she finds out that Akira is Eiji Hinagata's son by his first wife....
another love story with the fashion emphasis (which i have a soft spot for...).... (btw...the below is a picture of Akira from Tokyo Juliet...i think he is sorta cute.....;) heh...although of course in this picture his fingers look like worms...)
