ruri is a tomboyish japanese princess who was raised in the countryside, since her mother was sick, by her grandmother. she pretty much ran wild. she met a boy there who had no name...she called him Yoshino no Kimi (named him after the place where they lived). supposedly Yoshino no Kimi was a sort of illegitimate son of some high-ranking official. he didn't know who his father was, but because he loved ruri, he decided to go look for his father and ask for a title or something that he could offer to ruri...he asked her to marry him before he left (it was so cute...they're both so little...). but after he left, ruri's mother died. and her grandmother died. and when she went asking for him, she found that Yoshino no Kimi had died as well.
ruri was taken to her father's home...where her father had remarried with astonishing speed. she also met her little brother Tohru and his friend, Taka Akira. they let her play with them and (being the rotten tomboy she is) she would often beat them up. people thought she was a bit *odd*. which she was, but not in the way they meant. =)
after she grew up to 16 years, however, her father started calling her an old maid...since she wasn't married yet and most girls married younger. ruri claimed to be faithful to Yoshino no Kimi, refusing to marry; her father tried to match her up with various people and almost succeeded one time but Taka Akira pretended to be engaged to Ruri already and saved her from unwanted advances. it turns out that he was serious, though, because of a 'promise' he and ruri had made when they were little kids. ruri thought seriously about it, remembering their 'promise' and also the fact that taka akira was a one-woman kind of guy, and agreed. (of course they fall in love later...but yeah)
only...things get a bit complex when ruri does a bit of detective work for the would-be emperor...somebody wants him to be kicked out of running, i guess, for the throne, and for his little brother to be next in line...ruri helps solve the mystery thing...and then it turns out that the would-be emperor sorta falls for ruri....and since Taka Akira is reeeeeeeeeeally loyal to the emperor and that whole family, he almost decides to give up Ruri...
and of course ruri falls in love with taka akira....and she doesn't want to become one of the emperor's many wives....and so...she decides to become a nun! of course...taka akira rushes there in time to stop her....but...
another mystery comes up concerning the emperor's family....but i don't want to go through the whole entire series right now....maybe i will do manga translations/summaries later, since i haven't seen any online so far......there are a lot of funny parts in this series though, cuz there're tons of people against ruri and taka akira's marriage...and like...ruri's paranoid maid Kohagi and taka akira's paranoid attendant.....who are both like superloyal to them...
Princess Bride--the ONLY page I've seen for this series so far. geeze...why aren't there more?!
