In an attempt to clarify who is who, since I don't know the Japanese names, I made references to the main characters in bold.
At this old, musty college library, there's a legend that if two people meet on their first time there, they will fall in love.
The two main characters of the manga meet at this library for the first time. She is a third-year high school student who has a crush on some college guy and is waiting for him there; he is a first-year college student who is hiding from the football team who want to kick his butt for not going to practice. She doesn't like him at all, cuz he uses her to escape from those football guys, and also cuz when the football guys finally catch him in there, he knocks over like five shelves of books to attract attention. (She gets mad cuz he doesn't clean up and he actually steals a book too..)
Later, they meet again. It turns out that her father is marrying his mother, making them stepbrother and stepsister. Neither of them have any objections. However, her father is really distrustful of him cuz he thinks the guy is gonna try to make a move on his daughter. This causes a lot of tension, and he ends up moving out.
What makes it worse is that they actually do fall in love. And her father finds out. He gets really really really mad, and so the guy decides to go to America as an exchange student for a year to let his stepfather cool down a bit.
After a year, he comes back and they're still really in love blahblahblah, but now there's competition cuz while he was gone some college guy fell for her and plus, there's this girl who was also an exchange student who fell for him........and her father's this big business tycoon or something and ends up being the guy's employer....
Well, then there's the conflict with her father...who can't let his little girl go...and plus, his mother is pregnant so they're going to have a sibling that's blood-related to both of them...
She moves in with him....her father cuts off all connections with them...refuses to give them money...so they both have to work...then there's a fire and their house burns down, plus (in an effort to sneak them some money, and then trying to run away from the girl's father who comes looking for her) the guy's mother falls down, which is bad at her stage of pregnancy. She gives birth to a little girl, but dies.
The guy gets really really mad at the girl's father, cuz it was sorta his fault that his mother had to run in the first place....so he goes away to this new job that the exchange-student-girl's father is offering him. The girl stays home and takes care of the baby and keeps house for her father...who feels hecka bad for everything...
Well, things get really bad between the girl and the guy....so finally the girl's father helps them out...and they get back together again. yay.
At the very end, it shows them sort of grown up a bit...well, they're adults, and the baby has grown into a teenager...while waiting for the original girl/guy couple...she wanders into the college library....and meets a guy.......
makes you wonder what's gonna happen from there eh?
Despite the lengthy intro I've put here, I don't think it's really that great of a series...I'm just bored. =) Chiho Saito is a really good artist though. She writes a lot of shoujo romance. If you're into that sort of thing, you can go check her out. There're tons of sites on her stuffs, just look up Chiho Saito. =)
I've only read one...or two...other series by Chiho Saito. I was impressed by the art, but not much by the storylines...well, at least not the overall impression.
back to anime/manga!
