This is such a cute, sensual, and funky song- all at the same time! Fantasy's her tribute to the Tom Tom Club. I love the video for this song, which was directed by none other than Mariah herself!
Underneath the Stars
It gives such a feeling of a cool, summer night underneath the songs. This song's also her favorite, and one of mine too. The beauty of this song is it's ability to make the listener actually 'feel' it's setting. Cool, and flowing. The remix is the best remix she's put forth, unfortunately, Sony only released it as a promo CD. If you can get your hands on it, it's worth it!!!
One Sweet Day
This song is the reason I bought Daydream. I believe that everybody's ever heard it, so I won't say much. Her collaboration with Boys II Men....no wonder it set a record of 16 weeks at #1!!!!
Open Arms
Like Without You, she makes a hit better by singing it herself. No one will ever be able to duplicate her rendition's power and feel. I heard the original version ever since I was little, but I feel her's is much, much better.
Always Be My Baby
I was so impressed by this song. It has a natural flow, like Underneath the Stars, but it's lightly upbeat and beautifully written. She shows that she can break her mold and produce hits no one thought she could with this one. I actually forced my family to listen to it the night I bought Daydream, because I was so impressed and surprised by it.
I Am Free
It starts out subtle, but the vocals soar at the end. 'I Am Free' is a perfect title, because that's the feel of song at the end.
When I Saw You
Let's just say this. There were campaigns on the internet to try to get Sony to release this as a single....that should say something in itself. Along with Always Be My Baby, this was one of the songs I was very impressed by on Daydream.
Long Ago
She does the R&B thing so well with this. This song has a strong beat and accomodating melody and lyrics that flow very well.
Melt Away
My favorite R&B song of all time. She does the vocals beautifully close to the end, similar to that of 'I Am Free'. Babyface co-wrote the song with her, so it's sure to be classic.
Forever
It's a love song set to a waltz. I love the lyrics. "If you should need me, unfailingly I will return to your arms and unburden your heart. And if you should remember that we belong together, never be ashamed, call my name. Tell me I'm the one you treasure forever...." It's powerful and it's also another song only MC can sing.
Daydream Interlude
This song shows that Mariah is a master of many forms of music. This is '90's disco. It's also very much like a 'daydream'. This song's actually taken from a bit of one of her Fantasy remixes (which are my 2nd favorite remixes, right behind the Underneath the Stars remix).
Looking In
It's a very personal song describing herself (in my opinion).
A first rate song, which happens to be my brother's favorite (and I do compliment his taste! :) )
