'Mariah Carey' was Mariah's debut album, released in 1990.
Vision of Love
It's such a beautiful, feel-good-about-yourself song. It's the type of song you can sit down after a day of work and sip a cup of tea with. It was written after she got her record deal, so she was feeling really good at the time.
There's Got To Be a Way
There's a great swing to it. I like the way the song flows, and I feel our world needs more songs like this. It basically talks about poverty and man's inhumanity towards man, and how we 'can'change it all if we just tried.
I Don't Wanna Cry
This is one of my ultimate favorites. The lyrics are passionate, sorrowful, and powerful at the same time. Her awesome voice commands attention and stirs emotions, while this classic tragic love song bursts with professional genius.
Someday
This is such a great up-beat song. It reminisces of 'I Will Survive', except Mariah's the one that can scale up to seven octaves!
Vanishing
This brought some childhood memories back when I listened to it. Indeed, that's what the song's about- memories and how the good times vanish. Beautiful lyrics.
All In Your Mind
I feel that this song is very original. I've never heard anything like it. It's uplifting in a way, because it's singing about a girl assuring her love is everlasting towards her lover, who isn't sure about her feelings. We need more songs that talk about everlasting love than broken hearts.
Alone In Love
I know I just said we need more songs about lasting feelings than broken hearts, but this one's about a broken heart. The thing is, this is an absolutely gorgeous song. "Set me on fire, but now I'm left with a spark. Alone, you got beyond the haze, and I'm lost inside the maze. I guess I'm all alone in love..."
You Need Me
Go Femme Mariah!! It doesn't end at 'I don't need you', she takes it to 'YOU need ME'. Take command, Mariah!
Sent From Up Above
It supports the idea that people can love to the point they feel that their love was sent from heaven. A really nice idea.
Prisoner
MARIAH RAPS!!! WAOOWWW!!!!
Love Takes Time
The other ultimate love song....she takes the feelings so far, and you really do feel for her. "Love takes time to heal when you're hurting so much." The music is beautifully melancholy without the passiveness, and the lyrics completely reflect the feel of the song.
