Shinji Ikari also called the Third Child is the main character of this anime, and he also pilots Eva unit 1(Test Type Model). He is a passive boy who doesn't seem to care about anything. After watching the first few videos I found out that Shinji was unsociable and didn't act well when he was around others,but this changes over a period of time. Shinji doesn't get along with his father either. The reason for this is because when Shinji was a young child his father left him. Shinji comes to Toyko 3 because he recieves a letter from his father asking him to come to Nerv, and there is where our story begins. Shinji pilots his Eva to hear words of praise from his father.

Rei Ayanami also called the First Child is the pilot of Eva unit 0(Prototype Model). She, like Shinji, is passive and doesn't get along with other people well. There is much mystery about her past. The only person that Rei seems to open up to is Gendo Ikari, Shinji father. Rei is albino, and she doesn't like meat. She is a very interesting character. Over time Rei changes, and she opens up more to Shinji. The reason why Rei pilots her Eva is because of a bond to all things. Now I don't really understand this, but I think it means that Rei fights to protect the world and everything in it. Rei is my favorite character because of the way she is so mysterious and cool.

Asuka Langley Sohryu also called the Second Child is the pilot of Eva unit 2(Production Model). Asuka is very different from Rei. She is very active and craves attention. Asuka makes her first apperence in the 4th video(American version of the anime). Asuka also has a crush on Kaji(He appeared with Asuka in the 4th video). Asuka puts up this very aggressive attitude to hide the pain of her childhood.She wants to keep people from finding out that, she is just as weak as everyone else. The Reason why she pilots her Eva is to show off her skill to the world. Shinji interperts this as a way of showing she exists, and is not one of the countless people who are never known.

Misato Katsuragi is Nervs operation director. She also becomes Shinji's guardian when he comes to Tokyo 3. Misato is an upbeat fun loving character who loves to drink beer when she is not working, but once she starts to work she is very smart and strategic. All the Eva pilots trust her judgement and they obey her commands. When Asuka comes to Tokyo 3 she too lives with Misato. Misato's best friend is Dr. Ritsuko Akagi. She also has a pet penguin named Penpen. The reason why Misato joined Nerv was because she wants revenge against the Angels for what they did fifteen years ago at the Second Impact. She still has a scar above her stomach from a wound that she recieve from the Second Impact.

Dr. Ritsuko Akagi is the chief scientist of Nerv. She is the daughter of the woman who created the Magi. She is friends with Misato and Kaji. She is very intelligent and is the overseer of the Eva Project. Her role in this anime is very big. She know alot more then what would be expected. She seems to know the whole truth about the Evas as well. Also she knows about the plan that the commander has made.

Commander Gendo Ikari is the head of Nerv. He controls Nerv with an iron fist. He is a very smart man, and also the father of Shinji. Commander Ikari is a unfriendly guy who has only one purpose. That is to destroy the Angels and prevent a Third Impact.To this extend he will sacrific anything. He is quick thinking and very blunt when he speaks. Commander Ikari is one of the most mysterious people in the series. Commander Ikari complexture almost never changes. He just sits in his chair like a might ruler.
