This is the best version of Gum Yong's famous novel "Tian Lung Ba Bao". When Gum Yong first wrote this story, he based it on four big martial arts fighters. There is the funny prince Duan Yu (Kent Tong) who cannot fight real Kung-fu but knows enough magic to help him run fast and shoot laser beams. Second is Hui Chok (Felix Wong), the stupid but kind Shaolin priest who gets his Kung-fu "accidentally". Next is Muk Yong Fu (Sak Sel) who is a smart and handsome fighter who wants to revive his tiny country against the Sung Dynasty. And finally, the last is Kui Fong, the best fighter out of all of them who used to be the king of beggars.
The first story starts out with the prince Duan Yu and his adventures. His father (Patrick Tse) forces him to learn Kung-fu, which he hates, so he runs away from the palace. He meets a lot of girls which really happens to be his half sisters. His father had a lot of women and they all gave birth to daughters. Duan Yu almost gets married to his sister (Sharon Yeung) but he finds out the truth. Later on, he meets Wong Yuk Yin (Idy Chan) who is the daughter of a mean and rich lady. Duan Yu likes Yuk Yin but she only likes her cousin, Muk Yong Fu. Unfortunately, Muk Yong Fu concentrates only on reviving his homeland and uses Yuk Yin. She later realizes this and goes to Duan Yu.
Kui Fong, meanwhile, does a good job of being the king of beggars. However, the some bad members of his clan reveal that he is a Mongol person (some tribe invading the dynasty at that time) and he is kicked out. Kui Fong then meets Ah Chu (Wong Hung Sau) and they planned to get married. Due to a misunderstanding, Kui Fong believes that her father is the murderer of his parents and she dies for her father. He is really upset when she dies and joins back into where he originally came from - the Mongols.
Hui Chok at this time was at Shaolin. When his teacher sent him on a mission to recover some scriptures, he meets a whole bunch of martial arts fighters who give their Kung-fu to him just when they die (many weird and complicated reasons for this). He also breaks all the rules of Shaolin (wine, meat, etc.), loses his priesthood, and becomes the leader of another clan. It is in this section of the story when Hui Chok, Duan Yu, and Kui Fong become "blood" brothers.
Kui Fong and Muk Yong Fu are on different sides since they are from different countries. In a fight one day, Kui Fong beats Muk Yong Fu and in despair and shame, Fu asks villians to help him revive his country. This is when he becomes truly evil. At the same time, on their wedding day, someone exposes to Duan Yu that he and Yuk Yin are actually siblings. Duan Yu leaves sadly but later finds out that his father is someone else. Actually, all his "sisters" (Yun Ching, Ah Chu, Ah Zi, Zhong Ling) are not related to him. He marries Yuk Yin. However, Muk Yong Fu hostages Yuk Yin because he goes kind of mad and he gets killed.
At the end, Kui Fong, in order to protect his country and because some people would not believe him, he committed suicide. They buried him beside Ah Chu, his wife. Hui Chok even gets married and becomes some rich leader of some group. Duan Yu's father becomes a priest so he now is king. The best martial arts fighters are all dead.
