Sunao Mashiro is reading a manga and delights on how nice if it happens in real life but in her school, . . .
A blond girl looks in dismay at the boys in her school.
!? at wierd looking guys
!!? at nerdy guys and
!!!!? at overly muscled guys.
"What the --- What kind of school is this? Am I in a funny farm?" She falls down on the ground. Very distraught, her dream of meeting a boy on the first day of high school is destroyed. She then tries to cheer herself up that she just need to try her best and she'll find one, hopefully.
Behind her, on the second floor, there are two boys watching her. The black haired boy asks if she is Sunao Mashiro. The lighter color haired boy says it is her, Sunao Mashiro, 12 years old. The black haired boy sweatdrops as he saw a picture of Sunao biting on a package of bread which was pinned on a clothsline. [It seems to be a contest on who can get the bread with one's teeth as the hands are tied up] The other boy comments that she is just an average girl but she is the chosen girl.
In her classroom, Sunao greets her friend, Ling. They compare their observations and that from all they have seen, there is no guy which is their type. Sunao hopes that she will see more guys in sports clubs and events. Someone says that it is unlikely. It is Ling's sister who told them there are no nice-looking new students nor were there any nice-looking students in her batch but then, she is not interested in boys so it is okay as she sweatdrops. Sunao panics as there are no hope with the higher batch boys then remembers that there might be good-looking teachers. Much to Sunao's shock, their teacher is a very old man.
"End. . . my high school life has ended. . . " as she grieves for she has bought a lot of magazines about beauty, a lot of make-up, lots of clothes and other accessories. She didn't buy any delicious sweet foods and has been practicing her 'cute' smile. All of these as preparation for going out with a nice looking guy and now, all of it is for nothing.
At her house, Sunao kicks some wood boards to release her frustrations. Sunao praises herself of being able to break her record when her grandmother hits her, saying it is still not good. Her grandmother lectures about their style of martial arts and for Sunao to improve herself, her grandmother brings some bricks for her to chop. Sunao hesistates. Her grandmother bribes her with her fave movie even if she can break only one brick so Sunao chops the bricks. Sunao succeeds in chipping off a small part of one brick. Sunao screams because she has done it and grabs the tape. Her grandmother made her look the other way by calling her idol's name and grabs back the tape. She told Sunao that for a little thing, she used her strength and before she could lecture more, Sunao uses the same trick on her grandmother and got the tape back. They started quarreling as the two boys before, watch them.
Next day, in school, Sunao and Ling are looking for a club to join. Ling comments that there are really no nice looking higher batch boys. Sunao does not know which club to join. She surveys a basketball club, a sorcery/witch club and manga club but she still cannot find her type of guy. She observes that there are a lot of boys joining in the basketball club. When Ling is asking if they should just join the cooking club, Sunao said that they should try the basketball club and they joined.
Walking around, Sunao is trying to convince herself not to go by the type of guy she wants, 'round' faced then, she saw a cute looking dark haired boy. She immediately changed her mind about lowering her standards for the type of guy she wants. The boy calls to her and asks for help. He told her that a dog has gotten hold of his shoe and does not want to return it to him. As the dog ran off to the playground, he asks if she would be nice enough to get his shoe and also, reach for his bag that he has left on the stairs. Being smitten, Sunao immediately does her errands and notices that the bag is a school bag so he could be a student in school.
Like a puppy, she gives to the boy his bag and shoe. Her hand touches the boy's and she is so happy, blushing. The boy is very grateful then asks her to open her hand to him. The boy closes his hand and when he opens it, there are some candies. He gives them to her and is about to leave but Sunao asks him how he did that. She just wants to know more about the boy. The boy tells her that it is a magician's trick and he belongs to a magic club. Sunao is surprised that there is such a club and tells the boy that she likes magic and would like to meet him in the club. The boy seems happy about it and told her that he will see her then. Sunao cannot believe her luck and wonders what if a scene from a girl manga wherein the girl accidentally bump her dream boy would happen to her.
As Sunao is walkin to a corner, she was almost run over by a motorcycle. She remembers the scene so she shouted, "Ouch!" The boy stops and apologizes. When a cute looking light haired boy gets close to her and asks if she is alright. Sunao goes blushing and says that she is alright. The boy then moves his hand near her hair behind her ear. Sunao is surprised and goes blushing again because she never has been this close to a boy. The boy then pulls a rose from her ear. He gives it to her as a gift of apology. Sunao sweatdrops because she was thinking of something else. The boy then told her that he is in a magic club and asks her to join them. Sunao shouts, "Yes Yes Yes, I will join! Will Join!" The boy thanks her for joining and comments that she is a very cute girl. The boy then left, leaving Sunao in cloud nine especially since he commented that she was cute --- she felt like a princess.
Sunao begins to think about the magic club and that it cannot be bad to join there. She dreams of herself in a gown with the two boys holding her hand in a magic act. Ling shows her some rubber shoes and that Sunao should be a pair for the basketball club. Sunao said yes and that whatever shoes is okay and that being love is already starting. Sunao quickly leaves to find the magic club, leaving Ling confused about what Sunao said. Sunao goes from room to room to find the magic club but she cannot find it. A couple of students even say that there is no magic club which freaks Sunao out because she thinks that she has heard the two boys wrong, "Could it be orchard club [gathering fruits] or doctor club?"
Suddenly, there are party poppers [don't know if this is the corrent term. It is shaped like a cone and when the string is pulled, confetti will come out] that explode from her back. She looks behind her and sees the two boys with the party poppers as the light haired boy greets her, "Welcome to the Magic Club!!" They are in the library. Sunao learns that the magic club is not yet official. The light haired boy tells her that as of now, there are only two members so it is not yet recognized by the school. He introduced himself as Kaoru Hazama while the dark haired boy is Tooru Aida, both in second year. Sunao blushing, takes notes as she introduce herself. They tell her about a 'test' for they have to prove to the teachers about their club, they would have to show to the teachers some magic tricks. They ask her to wear something black.
It is already night. Sunao is dressed nicely in a black printed dress. She asks them if it is okay as she wonders that this is all very strange. The two boys in formal wear greets her. Sunao thinks that they are very cool and when Kaoru comments her as cute and about her outfit as he pats her head. Sunao blushes some more and follows them as she felt she is very, very lucky. She asks them why they are going at night. Kaoru tells her that they can perform better if it is dark. They arrive at a large house. Sunao is about to press the door bell when Kaoru stops her and tells her that the teachers told them to give them a surprise. Tooru calls her to the side of the house. Sunao wonders if there is a back door. Kaoru points up and asks her if she can climb up the wall. Sunao is happy to follow them but she is beginning to suspect something. Tooru remembers something and gives Sunao gloves and a rope. Tooru then shows her a wire then he used it to unlock the door. Sunao is shocked. While fiddling with her fingers and sweatdropping, she tells them, "Ah. . . I have a very small question, what we are doing. . . it is like we are petty thieves. . .ah. . " The two boys smile at each other then they look at her. Tooru is smiling as Kaoru gives her a wink. They tell her, "Jackpot! We are petty thieves! Now, you are also one!!" Sunao is shocked and a scream of disbelief echoes through the city.
