Ringo and her mom were raving as they watch Mahito sing in a tv show. Kazuomi who was making some dough, regrets inviting Mahito to their house on Christmas. During lunch, Ringo comments that Kazuomi's handmade noodles looked delicious and he needs to make one more. Kazuomi said that they were only five. Ringo told him that Mahito is coming since Mahito would be lonely being alone away from his family. Ringo also said that Mahito will come with them to the shrine to pray. This made Kazuomi unhappy.
Kazuomi with a weird face, tagged alone behind Ringo and Mahito and was wondering if this would make Ringo happy. Mahito comments that Ringo's kimono looked nice on her. This made Kazuomi more jealous. At the shrine, Ringo prayed that her cooking would progress and that people would like her as she becomes an teen idol. She glanced at Mahito and then prayed that Mahito's parents would be able to pay off their debts. Kazuomi prayed to become a basketball member and be able to play this year, and for his mother's work to become successful. He glanced at Ringo and prayed that he and Ringo will be together. He then thought that he should not mention this to Ringo yet, then he prayed that Ringo's dreams would come true. Ringo told Kazuomi that he was so serious and asked what he prayed about. Kazuomi was embarrassed and told her that she shouldn't ask.
Ringo found a fortune telling booth. [Note: In this booth, one gets a stick in a box-like container then each stick has a corresponding message with what one has prayed] Mahito's fortune was very good. Kazuomi's fortune was so and so. When Kazuomi asked Ringo hers, she made a crying face for it was bad luck. Kazuomi playfully laughed at Ringo then asked her fortune to be tied on the tree. [Note: they believe that tying up the bad fortune on a tree might make the bad fortune go away] Mahito then gave Ringo his fortune. At first, Ringo refuse to accept it but Mahito insisted for he had already received a lot from her. Ringo accepted his fortune and thanked him. Kazuomi looked a bit sad for Mahito had comforted Ringo first.
Ayanna came by and asked Kazuomi if he was alone. Just then, Ringo and Mahito walked by. Mahito apologized to Ayanna for passing out and caused her to worry. Ayanna blushed and immediately told herself that she shouldn't do that for she already have Kazuomi. Ayanna can't believe that Ringo was with two boys when going to the shrine. Ayanna told Ringo that they would have a Japanese sweets contest and that the director had already agreed to it as the show's New Year presentation. Ayanna thinks that this is Ringo's weakness for she cannot make Japanese sweets.
Watanabe apologized to Ringo for not telling her about the contest for they were very busy and he hoped that she will make a great recipe. Ringo was very frustrated. To liven her up, Kazuomi asked her to eat some of the food he had made. Ringo then kept on praising Kazuomi's food. Kazuomi had a feeling then asked Ringo if she wants him to help her. Ringo said yes for she does not like to be straightforward. Ringo said that Ayanna is very good at making Japanese desserts for she had made one in the show before. Ringo wonders out loud if this is the 'bad luck.'
Kazuomi was about to show her something when they heard a ring. Ringo asked what it was and Kazuomi told her that he was baking some sweet potato. Ringo said that she also want to eat them and suggested to make some sweets with sweet potato. Kazuomi then asked her if she wants to make that kind of sweets for the contest. Ringo grins and said that she can't win against Kazuomi who knows what she was thinking. Kazuomi then gave her a card. Ringo turned it over and saw a fortune taped on the card. It reads, Wish: Do not listen to what other people say. --- Good luck. Kazuomi while taking out the sweet potatoes, told Ringo that they should be creative since January is a happy month and they should make it like a game. Ringo then shouted, 'fortune' and grabbed the puzzled Kazuomi. She whispered to him her suggestion and Kazuomi approves of it. Ringo kept the two 'good luck' gifts given to her and hoped that the coming year will be a good one. In the meantime, Ayanna was very confident that she will win the contest.
The 'Happy Cooking Hour' show had started. Mahito introduced the three judges and Ayanna as the one who would compete with Ringo in the contest. Ayanna comments that she had organized this contest and mentioned that Ringo seldom makes Japanese sweets so she wants to compete with Ringo. Ringo just says that even though she seldom makes Japanese sweets, she will try her best. She thought that with the two 'good luck' gifts, she can do it. Ayanna glanced at Ringo's work table and saw sweet potatoes, butter and sugar. Ayanna was happy since Ringo will only make a simple sweet.
Time is up and the judges were commenting on Ayanna's work. They said that it is like the ones sold in the stores. They were quite surprised with Ringo's sweets which were just small balls of sweet potato. Ayanna thinks that even from the appearance she will surely win. Ringo then asked Mahito to try it. Mahito was then surprised to taste chocolate inside the sweet. The judges tasted the balls and found different fillings inside. Ayanna was quite shock. Mahito says that the taste was okay and quite interesting. Ringo told him that since it is January, many people are asking their fortunes, so it gave me this idea. Ringo added that it is quite fun guessing what was inside the sweet. Ringo looked at Kazuomi who gave her a victory sign. Watanabe tasted Ayanna's sweet and told her that it is also delicious. Ayanna said thank you angrily for she knew that she had already lost. Ringo smiled happily for she had made people happy when they ate what she made.
Ayanna was very upset at the contest and can't believe that she had lost. She remembered Mahito telling her that she should make things had has an appeal and makes people happy. Ayanna wondered if this is what Mahito meant of Ringo's cooking. Suddenly, she had heard Kazuomi's voice and immediately went towards the voice.
Ringo was happy since everything turned out okay and everyone
was
happy.
Kazuomi praised her for it is the first time that her idea had won the
contest
and it was special. Ayanna was peaking in the door and was surprised
with what
Kazuomi had said. Ringo was very happy that everyone was praising her.
Kazuomi
told her that she shouldn't ve very happy and should not always depend
on
other
people. Ringo told him that he just wait and the fake talented cook
will soon
become real. Ayanna was surprised for she have learned that Ringo is
not
really
a talented cook.
