Meet Sakura, your average, cheerful fourth grader.  Now, imagine that this normal girl happened to stumble across a magical book in her father's library.  And, upon opening that book, she accidentally releases the magical beings known as the "Clow Cards".  Freed, they intend to go out into the world and cause a little mischief, but that can't be allowed to happen.
So, something else emerges from the book.  This time, though, it is a tiny creature resembling a stuffed animal.  (He's in the piccie on the right!)  He claims to be the guardian of the book, Kerberos, sworn to watch over the Clow Cards.  Unfortunately, Sakura had caught him asleep, and he had let the cards escape.
Kerberos tells her that now, there must be a card captor to bring them all back, and return them to their confinement.  A key appears, which lengthens into a magical staff.  Kero tells Sakura to grab it, with out revealing why.  She does so, and becomes the card captor he was looking for.  To this day, Sakura insists that he tricked her.  Thus, the series is born.
Sakura lives with her father, Fujitaka, and her big brother, Touya.  Her mother, a lovely woman by the name of Nadeshiko, died when Sakura was three.
She happens to be fairly in love with her brother's best friend, a quiet, friendly guy named Yuki.  Every time she sees him, the manga falls into "Sakura-vision".  (Everything gets all frilly and happy.)
Her best friend is Daidouji Tomoyo, a girl who is handy with a camera, and tapes all of Sakura's card captor exploits.  She also designs all of her outrageous costumes.
So, while the cards are sometimes downright dangerous, Sakura is always surrounded by the help and support she needs from family and friends.
