Meet Genma Saotome, the comical father of Ranma Saotome. Genma is a fairly strong martial artist, with many powerful techniques (yeah right!). The truth be told, Genma's techniques are pretty funny. His final attack is basically running away and his desperation move, or the Crouch of the Wild Tiger, is basically groveling.
Genma is also a greedy man. It is becaus of Genma that Ranma has Ukyo, Kodachi and Akane as fiancees. Genma took Ukyo as Ranma's fiancee because Ukyo's father threw in his okonomiyaki cart as a dowry. He took Akane as Ranma's fiancee because he wanted to unite the Tendo and Saotome Schools of Anything-Goes Martial Arts. He basically traded Ranma to Kodachi for a pile of cash. He once even traded Ranma for a fish, rice and TWO pickles. Genma uses Ranma as if he was Genma's property to buy, sell and trade.
To top it off, Genma is a horrible father. He took Ranma away from his mother at a young age to go on a training expedition to China, even though he did not speak a word of Chinese. Genma told his wife, and Ranma's mother, that if he could not make Ranma into a man, he would commit allow her to kill him and Ranma before she finally takes her own life in a Japanese suicide ritual. So, how do you think that she will react when she discovers that Ranma changes into a girl?
While there, they visited the cursed springs of Jusenkyo. Genma was knocked into Shomaonichuan, Spring of Drowned Panda. Ranma, shcoked by the presence of his father's new body, was caught off guard and knocked into Nyaniichuan. Genma never makes any attempt to apologize for his actions. He also steals food from Ranma consistantly. This leads to many fights between the two, ofter resulting in both falling into a pond or something.
If Genma does have a good quality, its his adaptability. Genma is comfortable in both his panda and man form. He is often found lounging around at the Tendo Dojo or at his job in Doctor Tofu's office as a panda.
