How did i ever get around to watching this miniseries? its a strange story. here goes: back home, i managed to rent the first two episodes of this series (i do this often to get an idea of the storyline of the miniseries before diving head-on into renting all 7 tapes), and watched them. maybe i didnt really like the first episodes or whatever (i forget, it was too long ago), but i didnt watch any further. but just about 2 months ago, someone told me about this series, called "kono yono hate" (the end of this world), and sent me the series on tape. when we were just talking about it, i was able to tell what had happened in the first two episodes, except i didnt really realize that i had watched anything called that (because in chinese, it was translated "the fallen maria" or something like that). so anyways, i watched it, and heres the plot synopsis:

a lonely girl, maria (suzuki), finds a man fallen on the side of the road one night while walking back from work. she works as a hostess in a piano bar in order to pay for her sister's (sukurai) eye surgery. it later turns out that maria had set fire to her house when she was young and the fire killed her father and blinded her sister. the man maria saves happens to be shiro (mikami), a famous piano player, who has actually staged his own accident and amnesia in an attempt to run away from his life. this story is long and painful, involving twisted desires, evil characters, and most importantly, heroin. i thought that the ending was sad, but maybe that was just the power of love triumphing at any cost.
