CHARACTERS

Q: WHO ARE THE CHARACTERS?
A:

TENCHI MASAKI:

Our hero. Combine Ryouga's nosebleeds, Ranma's martial arts skill and Kyosuke's indecisiveness, and you have Tenchi. Tenchi is a nurturing type of fellow, who cares for all of those around him. He is a bit timid at first, but grows less timid and much stronger as the series progresses.

In the OAV series, he is "killed" (see debate on wither or not Tenchi was killed) in OAV 5, He is rescued by Tsunami, and is rebuilt. He faces Kagato again, and defeats Kagato by Generating Light Hawk Wings.

RYOKO:
AKA:
Devil of Destruction

A space pirate. Ryoko is in love with Tenchi and would do anything for him. Unfortunately, she doesn't have a lot of experience when it comes to matters of the heart, and many times will let her emotion and lusts get away from her. Beware of her cooking (and housework in general): she has little idea what food is or isn’t supposed to taste like and is immune to most toxins. Get her a cookbook fast.

Sex: Aggressive. Her idea of 'quiet seduction' could get her arrested for Lewd Conduct or Sexual Assault in some jurisdictions. Prepare for long and tiring nights (and days) on a regular basis.
In the OAV series, Ryoko is an artificially created life form (by Washu). As Washu's creation, Ryoko can be described by her mother's favorite word: Perfect. Originally Ryoko was under Kagato's control, where she pillaged many star systems, and attacked Jurai, Aeka's home planet, in a attempt to steal Tsunami. Ryoko was unsuccessful and fled Jurai, with the crown prince of Jurai, Yousho, pursuing her to earth, where Yousho shot down Ryo-ohki, and forced a battle on the planet surface. Yousho defeated her in combat, and sealed her in a cave. 700 years later, Tenchi accidentally freed Ryoko.

In the TV series, Ryoko is a Space Pirate, who gets too drunk one day, and is shot down by the greatest Police Detective of all time: Mihoshi ;-). Tenchi "Rescues" Ryoko, who promptly lies to Tenchi, and tells Tenchi that Mihoshi is a space Pirate. When the truth is revealed, she "teases" Tenchi by trying to kill him, but ends up falling in love with Tenchi.

AEKA JURAI MASAKI:
Name Origin: From an old Japanese word, "Aekanaru" (Means "delicate", "weak", "frail" and so on.) Kajishima likes the sound of this word.

The crown princess of Jurai, Sometimes fixated with royalty. She has experience with the complexity of Court life, but is just as bad as Ryoko when it comes to men.

Sex: Aeka can be petty. Her distinguishing features are large crimson eyes and long purple hair worn in the twin tails characteristic of Juraian royalty. When peaceful or content her face radiates a lovely aura of serenity. However when perturbed (which occurs whenever Ryoko is in the same time-space) her face can become quite twisted to rather humorous extents. Her body is lean and she appears to be the least well endowed of the Tenchi entourage but in her case this does not appear to be a handicap. As demonstrated by Washu her smaller breasts are more than compensated for by their extraordinary sensitivity. If you're expecting the shy virginal princess to be waiting for you behind closed doors you are in for one hell of a surprise. Apparently there are some "special techniques" for training Juraian husbands in the ways of love and Aeka would greatly enjoy training you. Unfortunately for you these techniques involve plenty of whips, leather, restraints and candle wax. I shudder at the thought of Misaki putting Azusa through this process. Anyway, have plenty of first aid cream handy and prepare for the ride of your life. Sexually Aeka is one lady who will except no position other than being on top. Provided, of course, that you aren't suspended from the ceiling.

In the OAV series she was betrothed to Yosho, her half brother, who left Jurai to pursue Ryoko. Aeka left Jurai to search for him. There is a hidden friendship later in the series between Aeka and Ryoko, but is marred by the mutual competition for Aeka.

In the TV series, she is still a princess, but is not engaged to Yousho. Mihoshi issues a distress call, which Aeka receives on board her ship, Ryu-oh. She is immediately taken with Tenchi, but after it appears that Ryoko has taken Tenchi from her, she tries to commit triple romantic suicide, and rams Ryoko's ship, Ryo-ohki. She is left stranded on earth with Tenchi, Mihoshi and Ryoko.

SASAMI JURAI MASAKI:

Aeka's little sister. Sasami deals with Tenchi much better then any of the other girls, much to the other girls frustration. Sasami has a crush on Tenchi, and tends to be a little mischievous. She also knows the way to a man's heart, and cooks for the family.

In the OAV's (and hopefully, in the new TV series), there is much more to Sasami. Sasami is the alter ego of Tsunami. When Sasami was a young girl, when Ryoko attacked Jurai, Sasami was thrown from a overhang, and collapsed in front of one of the Jurain Trees. The tree (either Tsunami, or a tree that was linked to Tsunami) merged with Sasami to save Sasami's life and giving her two triangle marks on her forehead. In the process, Tsunami assimilated with Sasami, making them one and the same.

Achika(Left) Nobiyuki(Right)
NOBIYUKI MASAKI:

Tenchi's perverted old father. He is a widower, and has never re-married. He tends to enjoy tormenting his son, and is looking forward to being a grandfather ;-)

YOSHO MASAKI:

Tenchi's Grandfather. He is unfeasible, and typically knows much more then he lets on. While he does not seem to have a lot of power (as in being able to blast stuff) he is incredibly skillful, beating Mihoshi's Mecha suit (in the TV series) with a Bokken (wooden practice sword), and Kagato with Tenchiken (in the OAV's).

In the OAV series, he left Jurai 700 Years ago to pursue Ryoko. Later he admits that he was looking for a way to leave Jurai. He takes a assumed name, and has a daughter, Achika, who is Tenchi's mother.

WASHU HABUKI:

A mad scientist ;-). Washu created Ryoko, and Ryo-ohki. She has a interest in Tenchi, but it appears to be more of a motherly figure then anything else. She appears to be a 12-year-old redheaded girl, but in reality, is probably older then 20,000 years old. She attended the Science Academy, and at one point or another, was the chairperson.

Sex: Kinky. If she comes after you in the nurse costume with the rubber gloves, run. Not that you'd get far with the capture devices she commands. This lady probably knows sexual techniques that would require your genetic alteration. You need never worry about your sex life becoming boring or routine. I seriously doubt that you will ever have sex with Washu the same way twice.

In the OAV series, She is one of the three most powerful "goddesses" in the universe. During episode 6, she is trapped inside of Kagato's ship. Mihoshi accidentally frees her. When Mihoshi broke the seal of Washu, she asked, "Are.., are you perhaps the girl Kagato kidnapped?". When she was kidnapped, the graduate students told the police that a *girl* student was kidnapped as a joke. (Even though Washu was 10,000 years old.) So Washu's expression meant "Those bloody kids are...".

She was once married and had a child, who was taken away from her, because she was not royalty. She is also Ryoko's mother, and created Soja and Ryo-ohki.

In the TV series, Washu is an exiled mad scientist, who is locked in a capsule, which crashes into earth. Because Human beings have a instinct to know what is or isn't evil, they created a shrine, and put Washu's capsule in a large cave, to make sure she never escaped.

In episode 8 of the OAV’s, Washu's lab suddenly appeared beneath the staircase. How can such a big lab fit into a small space? Well, it is built in a subspace and consists of five planets!!; the main one at the center surrounded by the other four, which are linked by orbital elevators. Her lab was built long before she came to Tenchi's house. She just made a door to it. In Tenchi Muyo, the concept of subspaces is clearly established and very convenient.

MIHOSHI:

A blonde ;-) (The Blondest Being In the Universe) Mihoshi is a member of the Galaxy Police. She is commonly referred to as the "luck vampire" as she is the most incredibly lucky person in the universe, and her partner is the single most unlucky. Mihoshi is the only one able to beat the great genius Washu. The grand daughter of the GP head in the OVA, and she gets many of the newest equipment due to that reason.

Her ship(functions as a mobile police station. Unlike other GP ships, it does not need to recharge energy or maintenance. That is, it has a self-evolving function. If you look closely, her ship has different shapes in the two episodes. The ship had evolved itself during the intervening period. Using this function, the ship keeps upgrading itself according to the latest information sent from the Headquarters, gathering resources from nearby planets or subspaces, as necessary. In this context, it is a living ship, similar to Ryo-ohki. Again this ship is an invention of Galaxy Academy. Why does only Mihoshi has got it? Because of her grandfather.), weapons, and most of her items are either illegal or far more powerful than the one that is normal sold, or owned by another officer. She can put out the fire but instead she will bring a flood along. [Thanks to Yagami]

Sex: Enthusiastic. There's no reason to expect that Mihoshi wouldn't be as eager about this as she is about anything else. She will certainly want to please you and her probability altering capacity will add an interesting twist to the experience. In what manner I cannot speculate but trust me, it will be something you wouldn't expect.

In the OAV series, Mihoshi is ordered to scout for Kagato, which she interprets as capturing Kagato. Unfortunately, Mihoshi crashes her ship on earth, and is saved from being sucked into a black hole by Tenchi. Mihoshi is a ditz with a purpose in the OAV series.

In the TV series, Mihoshi is in pursuit of the dreaded space pirate Ryoko. Mihoshi is a ditz with out a purpose.

KIYONE:

Mihoshi's Partner in the TV series. She is not in the OAV series. Kiyone tends to be the sanest of the Tenchi girls, primarily because she is not interested in Tenchi. She acts as a foil for Mihoshi.

KAGATO:

The Villain everyone loves to hate. However his OAV personality and his TV personality are incredibly different. He is tall, handsome, with long bluish-white hair and yellow eyes with red irises. His face has a purple complexion which gives him a highly exotic look. The rest of his body is invisible. His style of clothing is conservative, bordering on ceremonial. Kagato is ruthless, callous, cold-blooded, ambitious (wants to rule the universe) and arrogant as hell, this is a man to stay away from. He is the one your parents warned you about, girls. As he is totally obsessed with his scientific work, you shouldn't expect him to notice you unless you can't help him with his research.

In the OAV series, he is in search for the ultimate power. That leads him to Earth, and Yousho, in particular. He tries to take the "master key" from Tenchi and Yousho in OAV 5, but is defeated by Yousho.

Kagato in the TV series that goes after "the power of Jurai" and the Juraian throne. In the past he rebelled against the Juraian government and fought with his bestfriend--Yousho--for the Juraian throne, and lost. After he was defeated, he was sent to the dark galaxy and the Juraian government concluded that he was dead (Space-year 2635 or Jurai-year 1844, march. The government completely deleted all traces of Kagato and only revealed Yosho’s heroic acts, Yousho, being disgusted and tired disappeared. The throne of Jurai was passed on to the family closest to the Royal house (or Aeka's family). After a while (in Space year 2688/Jurai year 1894, December) he returned to Jurai using Yosho’s name. Seeing his overwhelming "power of Jurai" the Juraian Parliament concluded that he was Yousho and he succeeded the throne. He claimed that the new government had stabilized and declared that all the other members of the Royal family to be caught and imprisoned. For Princess Aeka he was far more strict, he accused her of being a betrayer and ordered her to be caught. [Thanks to Yagami].

Most agree that in the OAV series, there is something more then just the good girl Vs. bad guy relationship between Kagato and Washu, but not everyone agrees what that relationship is.

FUNAHO JURAI MASAKI:

Tenchi's Great Grandmother, Yosho’s Mother. The saner of the two Jurain queens. She comes to earth to seek out Washu to make sure that Washu does not help other nations to build more Ryoko's & Ryo-ohki’s. She does not appear in the TV series.
[anyone have any information about her manga appearance? Or novel appearance?]

MISAKI JURAI MASAKI:

Misaki is Misaki, there is no other description possible. Misaki is the other Jurain queen. She does not show up in the TV series.

RYO-OHKI:

Ryoko's ship which turns into a cabbit (a cross between a cat and a rabbit.... ;-) It has a insane desire for Carrots, and in the OAV series, gains a human form which resembles a 3 or 4 year old girl.

SERIYOU:

Tenchi's would be opponent for Aeka's heart. He failed to learn the fourth law of thermodynamics. "Where Mihoshi is, Chaos reigns."

TOKIMI:

We don't know much about Tokimi. Only that Tokimi wants to talk to Washu, calls Washu and Tsunami her sisters, and is very powerful. According to Tenchi 101, she is the most powerful of the three Goddesses.

TSUNAMI:
AKA: Strongest Ship, Ship of Beginning, Secret jewel of universe, and Human version of Ryo-ohki.

Tsunami originally was a Jurain "will". That is, a conciseness embedded in a tree, which is able to command a ship. According to Aeka, Tsunami is the most powerful ship the Jurians have, the only Ship in the fleet able to generate 10 Light Hawk Wings. Tsunami is over 128x as powerful as Ryo-oh, who can only produce 3 wings. Tsunami's human form, Sasami grown up, is identified as being the third goddess. Tsunami was referred as in many names in the series.

MASAKI ASUZA:

Azusa is the ruler of Jurai, and the father of Aeka, Sasami, and Yousho (as well as other siblings we may not know about). He has a strong jealous streak, which manifests itself, when the girls decide to stay with Tenchi in OAV volume 13.
