SALVATION
Due to the fact that this band recorded
the timeless "Forever Young" and "Big in Japan" back in 1984,
they have become more of a cult band and have gone almost unrecognized
since then. Really unfortunate because they've released some damn
great LP's.
WEA has turned it's back on ALPHAVILLE and have not put any promotion into 1994's incredible PROSTITUTE and now SALVATION. Stripped down to two members, Marian Gold (incredible vocals) and Bernhard Lloyd (keyboards) along with producer Andy Richards have put together one of the first true new wave records of the 90's. Traditional synthpop songs with today's eurosynth and techno riffs all over the place.
The opening beauty of "Inside Out" along with "New Horizons", "Spirit Of the Age" and the AV trademark sounding "Point Of No Return" and "Soul Messiah" are among the 12 killer pop songs. "Monkey in the Moon", "Dangerous Places", the techno-energized, orchestrated first single "Wishful Thinking" and the love song to end all love songs "Flame" are all strong. One of the best synth dance songs of the modern new wave era "Guardian Angel" is absolutely stunning! Dare listen and you will see what the hype is all about.
Marian's voice is as powerful and moody as ever, as evident in the closing song, the intense, orchestral and breathless "Pandora's Lullaby" which can easily be summed up as the "My Way" of the modern synth era. The songs/keyboards/synth arrangements and production are just flawless at every beat of every song. AV has always released perfect albums and SALVATION is no exception. Get this one, you will not be dissapointed.
