And Marian is a *big* Bowie
fan - not only did he cover "Five Years" (is
that title right?) on "United",
but he has a framed poster of Bowie in
his living-room!
He also had an anecdote
about hanging out in a club in Berlin in the late 70s,
hoping Bowie would turn
up (that was during Bowie's Berlin period) - I think
that was where Marian got
the idea for "Big in Japan".
So indeed, I would say Bowie
definitely had some influence on AV.

<<I remember an
interview in the Moonpaper in 1992-93, where Marian tells
about this song being
very personal and about the years since Alphaville
started. Marian sings:
12 years, 6 were good, 6 were bad" - sometimes I
wonder which period was
the bad...?>>
I asked him back in '95,
and he said the song had been written in '89.
The six good years were
when he and the others were just starting up in
the Nelson Project, and
then the six bad years followed the success of
"Big in Japan" (when
Marian got snared into all sorts of unsavory stuff).
At least, that's what he
said...

My name is Csaba, and I’m one of the leaders of Hungarian FC. Maybe I’ve some interesting information about the Red-Rose video.
And finally some pieces from an interview (LOCATION: BUDAPEST, YEAR: 1986 - AV on the top!)
Reporter: So, at all, was
any live-appearance in the life of Alphaville?
Ricky: No. But... last year,
in Berlin, at the Antinuclear-Festival. We are on the whole studio-musicians.
Reporter: We know only the
Forever Young. When come the new album?
Marian: We are working in
our own studio at West Berlin. It’s a lucky situation, we can make anything.
We can work with one album whether two mounth or three years.
Reporter: And the manager
how can carry this tempo?
Bernhard: He accustomed
it. Works with Kraftwerk previously. There one album was composed five
years...
Marian: The pop-musician
make music to trade. But we would like to make evergreen together.
Best
Csaba
