Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040

Bubblegum Crisis has been called the animated series that defined the 'babes in battlesuits' genre that is so popular in Japan. In reality its depth far succeeds a bleak, uninteresting story about four women prancing around in powered armour. BGC has characters with personality, lives, and stories to back up their actions. It is one of the few anime, along with Neon Genesis Evangelion and some others, that does not forget its plot in order to satisfy the audience with gratuitous sex, profanity, or violence.

As most people know, BGC has two sequels. There are also manga, including an American version, based on the series, and countless fanfictions. Along with all of this, BGC has what may be the largest number of series pages dedicated to it. It has been around for over a decade and fan's have seen an increase rather than decrease in interest for their beloved series. The protagonists, Sylia Stingray's Knight Sabers, versus GENOM, the domineering super conglomerate, is an age-old story that plays out unusually well in the world of Mega Tokyo, AD2031-34.

The Knight Sabers

In the year 2031 Sylia Stingray, daughter of the murdered father of the Boomers, had finished development of her creations, the Hardsuits. With this done, she recruited three other women to aid her in her quest to bring down those men responsible for her father's death. These women called themselves the Knight Sabers.

Sylia Stingray

Sylia Stingray is the leader of the Knight Sabers. She is the most intelligent one in the group, able to use her exceptional mental abilities, physical beauty, and cunning to get what she wants from anybody she chooses. Sylia is a cold, deceptive woman who manipulates others into believing one thing. She is very mysterious and prefers to keep to herself, not allowing anyone to get close to her.

Nene Romanova

Nene Romanova is the Knight Sabers' hacker. Though not as skilled with computers as Sylai is, she can certainly hold her own and her talents are to be envied. Nene is very weak in physical combat and relies mainly on the other Knight Sabers and her computers to get her out of a mess. She is the youngest Knight Saber and a little naive.

Linna Yamazaki

Linna wanted a career in dance but when her dream was shattered by poor judgment at an audition, Sylia went to her and proposed that Linna join the Knight Sabers. Linna is friendly, open, intelligent, and interesting, but she leans toward being a little on the shallow side, not concerned with world affairs so much as she is with her own.

Priscilla S. Asagiri

Every team needs a resident 'bad bitch' and Priss would be that for the Knight Sabers. She is also the most faithful in the group, willing to give her life for the others, most specifically Sylia, who saved her from a self-destructive path that she was running at the age of seventeen. Priss hates GENOM and the AD. Police and prefers to rebel and go against orders.
