PAST LIVES 2 Flesh and Blood BY LADY JUPITER (LADYJUPITER@SAILORJUPITER.COM) Queen Jupiter walked out to the balcony where her daughter, Makoto stood. Makoto smiled at her mother, "Hi Mom. Is the ball over?" "Yes, it is," Queen Jupiter looked out at the gentle waves in the ocean, "I noticed you danced every dance with Shinosaki, Judge Miyake's son." "He's a great dancer," Makoto replied. "He's a charming young man. Very polite. I knew his mother. She was quite a nice lady. I think that is where he got all the manners from." "What happened to Mrs. Miyake?" Mako knew Mrs. Miyake died a long time ago, but never knew how. "She died giving birth to Shinosaki. But it wasn't anyone's fault. The poor boy use to blame himself for it." Queen Jupiter sighed, "I've known Shinosaki since he was a baby." "Why wasn't I ever introduced to him?" Mako asked. "Well, when you were just a toddler, I think about two years old, Judge Miyake brought his son for a visit here." Queen Jupiter recalled, "Let me see. Shinosaki was already five years old. Back then, there was such an age difference that you two didn't even play with each other. Then, Shinosaki went to Knight training. He is so determined as a young boy. He was usually too busy to come and meet you, then when he actually did come sometimes, you were out with the Moon Princess or your other friends." "Oh," Mako said. "Do you like him?" Queen Jupiter asked, smiling to herself. She could already tell by the stars in her daughter's eyes. "Yes, he is really sweet, polite, and charming," Mako sighed. She couldn't wait to see him again. "He is three years older than you are, Mako." Queen Jupiter said. "Is that bad?" "No, but I just wanted to tell you." "What will happen after he finishes Knight training?" Mako asked curiously. "Well, your father, the King wants Shinosaki to work as a palace Knight. But you do realize what will happen if there is war don't you?" Queen Jupiter asked her daughter. "Yes, but there will not be war." Mako said, determined, as if just saying so will stop all evil. "That's not a guarentee. Don't get too attached to him. I don't want to see you hurt." Queen Jupiter said, "I'm tired. I'll turn in for the night. Don't stay up too late." "Good night mom," Mako said. "Goodnight sweety," Queen Jupiter exited the ballroom. *Too late, mother. I've fallen for him already* Mako thought to herself. * * * * * * (Saturday morning) "Venus Crescent Beam!" Sailor Venus shot it out at Sailor Mars. "Mars Fire Bird Charge!" Sailor Mars intercepted the beam in midair. "Hey, good one," Sailor Venus complemented, "Can you teach me how to block it like that?" "It takes practice," Sailor Mars advised. "Moon Tiarra Magic!" Sailor Moon threw her tiarra at Sailor Jupiter. Sailor Jupiter wasn't paying attention and got whacked on the head with the metal headgear, "Oww!" "Pay attention!" Sailor Moon told her. They were all practicing in the training room. Every Saturday morning, they would practice on each other. "Mercury Ice Bubbles Freeze!" Sailor Mercury sprayed out her frozen ice. Everyone ducked but Sailor Jupiter wasn't fast enough. "Mars Fire Ignite!" Sailor Mars shot one at Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon ducked. The fire balls went straight to Sailor Jupiter. Sailor Jupiter saw it coming, "Jupiter Thunder Clap Zap!" Sailor Jupiter missed and was barely able to duck. She nearly got her hair scorched off of her scalp. The ten O clock bell rang, signaling it was time to end this practice session. The girls went to the locker rooms and cleaned up. They transformed into regular clothes and went out to sit on the front porch. "What's wrong, Mako?" Usagi asked. "Nothing," Mako said. "What do you mean nothing? I nearly got you with my fire, I saw Usagi hit you with her tiarra, you missed most of you shots, and you say nothing? You are usually the best fighter. What's on your mind?" Rei asked. "I know what's wrong with her!" Minako squealed. "What?" Ami and the others asked. "Mako is in LOVE!" Minako declared. "Am not!" Mako defended herself, although it was true. "With who?" Rei asked. "Oh I bet it was that Shinosaki guy! He is a dream!" Minako declared. "Yeah, almost as cute as Endymion," Usagi sighed. "Way cuter than him," Minako said. "Well, is it?" Ami asked Mako. Mako didn't answer, she only blushed some more. "Oh look! It is. She's turning red!" Usagi pointed at the suffering Makoto. Luna stepped up from under a chair, "I see that Princess Jupiter has fallen for a Knight." "How did you know he was a Knight?" Mako asked. "You can tell from what he wears. It is uniform," Luna informed them. "Mako has fallen hard!" Rei agreed. "I heard there was a ball at Jupiter last week. Did you see him there?" Minako asked. "Yes," Mako said. "Did he ask you to dance? Oh ofcourse he did! Tell me all about it!" Usagi was almost drooling for information. "Well, he asked me to dance. I think we danced seven dances together. Then we went out on the balcony because it was stuffy in the ballroom." Mako offered, hoping that was enough. "And?" Usagi was now on the edge of her seat. "And then he kissed me and said he wanted to see me again," Mako said, blushing. "How romantic!" Minako said. "When are you going to see him again?" Rei asked, "Does he have a cute brother to introduce me to?" "Woa, down girl," Mako joked, "He's an only child. I don't know when I'll see him again, he has to go back for Knight training." "Looks like you'll see him sooner than you think," Luna said. "What do you mean?" Mako asked. Luna pointed to someone across the Moon Gardens. Mako squinted in the light. She recognized him. "Shino-chan!" Mako shouted and stood up. Shinosaki heard someone call his name. An angel perhaps. He turned and saw Mako waving at him. Shinosaki walked with quick strides across the garden and met her on the large patio. "Good morning Mako-chan," he bowed to her. Then he looked at the others and bowed, "Good morning." Shinosaki looked at the black cat, he had heard it could talk, "Good morning kitty-cat." He reached over and petted Luna. Luna purred. "Looks like my cat has taken a liking to you," Usagi laughed. Shinosaki laughed along with the others. Then he said, "Would it be too much to ask if I can take Mako-chan for a walk so we can talk?" "Sure, go ahead. We have to need of her," Rei joked. "Hey!" Mako said. "Just kidding, go ahead." Rei said. "Thank you," Shinosaki lead Mako into the depths of the large garden, about three acres in width. "I missed you," Mako said shyly. "I missed you so much," Shinosaki put an arm around her waist. "What are you doing here anyway? Aren't you suppose to be in training?" Mako asked. Shinosaki laughed an looked around, "Why so eager to get rid of me? Have a lot of boyfriends hiding around here? Is that it?" he smiled. "No, ofcourse not." Mako said. Then, Shinosaki's expression turned seriously dark, "Mako-chan, you have to promise me something." "Anything." "Promise me that my father won't find out I'm here." "Why?" "I snuck out of camp," Shinosaki said. "Why? I'm sure if you just ask your father..." "NO," Shinosaki interupted, "You don't understand. My father must NOT know I came here and spoke to you." "Huh?" Shinosaki held Mako's small hands in his own, "You have to believe me Mako-chan. I love you and I mean it. You have to trust me on this. My father is not well," "Is he ill?" Mako asked. "No, he's," Shinosaki pointed to his head, "He is not right up there." "Does my father know?" Mako asked. "No, it's not that obvious. My father has this idea to destroy your whole family so he can take over." "But out father's are good friends for a long time, surely my father would know," Mako said. "No, my father just started changing recently. He asked me to go along with the plan. To earn your family's trust, then to take over. I agreed-" Shinosaki hung his head shamefully. Mako yanked her hand away from his, "So you were lying! You don't love me? Is this all part of the conspiracy?" "No, Mako-chan. I agreed only because I thought that if I did, then somehow, someway, my father would go back to normal. You should see him. Nights when I'm home, he would walk around the study, ranting and raving about this 'GREAT PLAN' to take over Jupiter." Shinosaki said and shook his head sadly. "How do I know you're not lying now. And that you are not part of this- this conspiracy?" Mako asked. "Because I love you. I never thought I would have such deep feelings for you. All that I said, I really mean it. I love you Mako-chan. I just do. I don't now how or why, I just do. You have to beleive me. You have to warn your father." Shinosaki pleaded. "I believe you. I just hope my father will believe me. They were such good friends," Mako said. "It's my fault," Shinosaki mumbled, "If only I were home more often, maybe then he wouldn't have changed like he did. It's my fault. Just like mom." Mako huggged Shinosaki, giving him comfort. There she was, with one of the Knights, bravest of all militia men, and yet, it was like a child. A child needing comfort. "No, Shino-chan. Your mother's death was not at all your fault. It was just her time to go. This is not your fault either. Don't ever blame yourself for that." Shinosaki stood at the comfort of Mako. This girl was so selfless, always thinking of others. Now, she wasn't even thinking of the danger her or her family was in. She was thinking of giving him comfort. "Mako-chan," Shinosaki said softly, like a prayer. Mako looked up at his deep brown eyes. She felt it. She felt the love that came from both of them, almost like a thick wall. "I'll try to do something," Makoto promised. "I'll do everything I can to protect you Mako-chan, you and your family." Shinosaki said. "First, you have to go back to camp. It'll cause more trouble if they find out where you were." Mako said. "But, if I stay, I'll be able to do something," Shinosaki said. "No, when there is something needed to be done, I'll tell you. Right now, I have to think. Is there anyone else in on this?" "No." "Okay, I'll tell my father and we'll see what happens." Mako said. Shinosaki impulsively took hugged Mako against him and kissed her. "Good-bye," Shinosaki said. "Good bye, I'll let you know what happens." "Make sure you do," Mako watched Shinosaki turn a corner and dissapear behind a large bush. Mako decided to return to the brunch that was probably in session already. "Where is Shinosaki?" Usagi asked once she saw Mako. "He had to go," Mako said. Then she realized that they should know not to tell everyone he was here. "Promise me that you won't tell anyone he was here?" "Why?" Minako asked. "I'll tell you when it's all over," Mako sighed. "When what is all over?" Ami asked. "This thing. I can't tell you right now, I want to. But I shouldn't." Mako said. "Okay, whatever you say," Usagi sensed it was somthing serious, "Does my mother know about whatever it is?" "No, and she isn't suppose to know," Makoto stated, letting it sink in. "Okay, let's just forget about this until Mako wants to talk about it," Rei said. "Okay," the others agreed. They sat in silence, trying to think of somthing to say. They looked at each other, trying to find some conversation starters. "Do you like Shinosaki a lot?" Ami asked. "Yes," Mako admitted, "I feel like I'm whole when I'm with him." "That is exactly how I feel with Endymion," Usagi sighed. "But Shino-chan is different. He's funny, light hearted most of the time, and there's this kind of spark to him," Mako said. Minako smiled, "I see that you are calling him Shino-chan. Getting friendly? He also calls him Mako-chan doesn't he?" Mako blushed, "Yes, I guess I do." "You girls are horrible. Can't you tell that you are embarassing poor Mako?" Luna came to her defense. "Yeah, that's true," Rei agreed, then turned to Usagi, "What about the Prince of Earth? Endymion." "What about him?" "Did you meet him this week?" Rei asked. "No, he's always busy. But he sent me a rose yesterday," Usagi said. "On what occasion?" "No occasion," Usagi said, "He's just a great guy!" The conversation went on and on, but all Mako could think about was what Shinosaki told her. Was it true? Was there that kind of conspiracy? * * * * * * * * * "Dad, can I talk to you?" Makoto asked her father who was sitting in the study. "Sure. What's on your mind?" King Jupiter put down the paper he was reading. "How long have you known Judge Miyake?" Mako asked. "A long time. I've known him since I was fifteen. Wow, that's a long time," King Jupiter chuckled to himself, "We use to get into trouble together." "Were you guys good friends?" "The best. Ofcourse, Judge Miyake was more outgoing than I was. He was always thinking up all kinds of plans to have fun or get in trouble. I was more level headed, getting him out of trouble. Those were the days. Why are you asking?" Mako hesitated. This didn't sound like someone who would harm her father, but then why would Shinosaki lie? King Jupiter said, "You've met Shinosaki haven't you?" "Yes," Mako couldn't help the little blush that came into her cheeks. "You two were dancing together at the ball weren't you?" "Yes," "Ahh. He's a fine young man. Very honerable." King Jupiter said, "I'm glad you've taken a liking to him. He'll be done with training in a little more than year. He's very determined. I've seen all kinds of young men go into training and drop out. The Knight's are very elite. I have a feeling he'll be the only Knight left that will graduate from the training. So many young men are dropping it..." "Shino-chan...um, I mean Shinosaki told me something," Mako started out. "Yes?" Mako didn't know how to let it down slowly, "He said that his father was sick." "Oh? Is Judge Miyake ill? I shall have to send one of your mother's miracle remedies then." King Jupiter misunderstood. "No, not that kind of sick," Mako said. She pointed to her head and spun her finger in little circles, "He's not right up there." King Jupiter got mad, "Young lady, it is not to say someone is crazy just because you don't have a liking to them." "No dad, let me explain," Mako interupted, "Shinosaki told me his father was planning a conspiracy against you. To take away your power for himself or something." King Jupiter didn't believe her, "Makoto. If you are bored, please go read some books. But please don't make up little lies to stir up your interest. That is not the way it works around here. It's not proper for a young lady to go around spreading lies about other people. Do you understand?" Mako knew that her father wouldn't take this nicely, "Daddy! The are not lies. It's true! Shinosaki told me. Why would I lie?" "Makoto! Don't raise your voice with me. Don't accuse Shinosaki with your mistakes. I want you to go up to your room and don't come down until you want to apologize." King Jupiter was getting frustrated. His daughter never acted like this before, but Judge Miyake would never do something sneaky like that. Would he? "Listen Daddy! They are not lies!" Makoto was getting mad herself. "Go to your room!" King Jupiter ordered, "Or do you want to be humiliated by making me send a guard to drag you in there." Mako stood up and said in death calmness, "I will go, but not because they are lies. I'm going because you won't believe me." She turned and started to walk out the door. Mako turned and looked at her father, "How can you expect people to trust you, if you won't even trust your own daughter? Your own flesh and blood?" King Jupiter lost his head, "That is because you are NOT my flesh and blood! There is not blood that binds us!" The whole room spun before Mako's eyes. Was her father right? Or did he say that just to make her mad? She never had a strong relationship with her father, but then that didn't mean that they weren't related. Or did it? Mako looked at her father and saw it was true. What he said was true. "Liar!" Mako screamed. She picked up her dress and ran up to her room. She passed her mother, the Queen on the way. Mako was half crying and tears were streaming from her eyes. "Mako! What's wrong?" Queen Jupiter asked. "Nothing!" Mako screamed and continued running. Was she really her mother? Why did her father say that? What if she wasn't related to anyone in this family? Mako reached her room and slammed the door locked. Queen Jupiter looked in the direction that Mako ran from. She saw her husband standing in the doorway to the study. He looked terrible. His eyes red rimmed as if he was going to cry any minute. Queen Jupiter knew he wasn't going to cry even in the privacy of the study. "What happened?" Queen Jupiter asked when she reached her husband. "I told her," King Jupiter said. Queen Jupiter's face went pale, "Please, tell me you didn't tell her that you weren't her father." "I told her," King Jupiter repeated. "God, no!" Queen Jupiter shuddered. King Jupiter took his wife and led her into the study and closed the door behind them. "I'm sorry, Haille." King Jupiter, in the privacy of the study dropped the formality and called his wife by her name. "Zeus! Why?" Queen Jupiter, Haille demanded. "It just came out. Mako was making up these lies about Judge Miyake. Then she said I didn't trust her, her own flesh and blood. I just blurted out that she was not my flesh and blood. God, that was so stupid. Why did I say that?" King Jupiter, Zeus, put his head in his hands. "Do you realize how devastating it can be for your father, someone you called 'daddy' for your whole life just tell you that you are not his daughter?" Queen Jupiter asked. "For as long as I live, she will always be my daughter. I don't care if there's no blood between us. You know how much I love her. I almost completely believed that she was my flesh and blood." "I guess she should have known. Maybe this was meant to be. We should have told her from the start." Queen Jupiter said. "No, then there would be all this media about how she is only half heir to be Princess of Jupiter." King Jupiter said. "That doesn't matter if she is only half and heir. She had my blood in her, that still makes her royal blood." Queen Jupiter said. "But there are a lot of jealous people who would do anything to knock her off the waiting throne." "Yes, that's true. It shall be kept a secret then. I don't want her to have to battle for her royal position." Queen Jupiter said. "I wish I could have taken what I said back." "It's done and over with," Queen Jupiter said. Then, she thought of something, "Oh no. What if she thinks she's adopted or something. What if she thinks that she isn't related to me either?" "Don't worry. Anyone can see the resemblence between you two. She's growing up to look like you, Haille. My little girl is growing up." King Jupiter sighed. "I'll go up and talk to her. Are you coming?" Queen Jupiter asked. "No, she's still mad at me. But she said some pretty mean lies about Judge Miyake." "What if they're not lies?" Queen Jupiter asked. "Don't tell me you believe her? They have to be lies. She literally called Judge Miyake crazy!" King Jupiter said. "Don't you believe her?" "You do?" "She is my daughter," Queen Jupiter said. "She is my daughter too. But do you really think Judge Miyake is crazy?" "I don't know what to think yet. I'll go up to talk to Mako." "What are you going to tell her?" King Jupiter asked. "She obviously knows now. I'll tell her the truth." Queen Jupiter said. "The truth about Murawa?" King Jupiter asked. "Yes," Queen Jupiter hated stirring up the past, but it must be done. * * * * :( Makoto was lying face down on her bed. She couldn't cry anymore. She had sobbed all her tears away. Her father didn't believe her. When she was only telling him for his own good. Then to find out that he really wasn't her father? Then who was her father? She knew that her mother was her own. She could see parts of her mother in her. A slightly lighter hair color, the same emerald eyes. The same small nose and full lips. But then who was her real father? Was that why Mako and the King were not that close? Is that why Mako and her mother were closer? "Mako? Can I come in?" Queen Jupiter knocked on her daughter's door. "Go away!" Mako told her mother. She didn't want to talk. She rather lie there and mope. "Please Mako, we need to talk." Queen Jupiter opened the door and saw her daughter with her face burried in a pink pillow. She could see Mako had been crying. Queen Jupiter sat beside Mako on the bed and patted her back, "I guess your father told you." "He's not my father," Mako said. Queen Jupiter smoothed her daughter's dress out, "He loves you very much, Mako. He didn't mean what he said. It just came out. He thinks of you as a daughter. You ARE his daughter. He IS your father, even if not through blood relation, but through family love." "When were you going to tell me all of this?" Mako accused. Queen Jupiter kept silent. She hoped that this moment would never occur. Mako answered herself, "Never! You were going to let me live a lie my whole life?" "Why stir up the past?" Queen Jupiter asked. Mako sat up and looked at her mother. Her mother was wise, beautiful, fair. Everything she hoped to be. Except one flaw. Queen Jupiter tryed to ignore anything unpleasant. Even the past. "Because I want to know who I am!" Mako said. "You are Makoto Kino, Princess of Jupiter." Queen Jupiter told her. "Mom, who is my father? My real father?" Mako asked. "The man on the throne right now, King of Jupiter is your father. Are you asking who is your biological father?" Queen Jupiter asked. "Yes," "Why pick old bones?" Queen Jupiter hoped that Mako would understand that she didn't like talking about it. "Because I want to know where I am from! Mom, if you don't tell me, I promise you that I will find someway to find out eventually." Makoto threatened. "I'll tell you. I guess you would have found out anyway." Queen Jupiter said. "Is he alive? My biological father?" Mako asked. "No, he's gone now. Gone for a long time." Queen Jupiter said sadly. "Did you love him?" "Yes, but I love your father too." Queen Jupiter added. "Who is he? Can you give me a name?" Mako asked. "Yes. He was Knight back then, when he was still alive. Just like that young man, Shinosaki." Queen Jupiter was stalling. Mako could tell her mother was stalling time, "Mother! Tell me before I die of old age." Queen Jupiter smiled a little, then turned back to her serious face, "His name was...." *************To Be continued............................. Hah! Left ya hanging didn't I? Well, you'll just have to wait until you get the next chapter then. Hahaha! I hate it when people leave me hanging in these stories, but too bad. I didn't know it was going to turn out this way, but it's getting more interesting as the story progresses huh? Comments questions and flames go to me, Lady Jupiter: Ladyjupiter@sailorjupiter.com Don't ask me who Makoto's biological father is, because you'll have to wait till later. Who knows, it might even be Judge Miyake! Oh mi god! That will make Mako's and Shinosaki's relationship incest! Debauchery! Well see what happens, won't we? **********************Copyright 1997 Lady Jupiter**************************
