================================================================ "Mortal Things" by Shioru Sutherlands (aka. Kotoshin) ================================================================ To be human is the greatest gift of all The only reason angels take the plunge and fall Sorrow and love, sorrow and love The mortal things immortals have lost above Sorrow and love, sorrow and love, sorrow and love ... Invulnerability, immortality, utter certainty Are not what immortals seek Vulnerability, mortality, unpredictability Are mortal things immortals dream I'd rather live a day than a thousand years If it meant that I'd never shed one tear I'd rather have every fear come true If it meant that I'd never have met you Sorrow and love, sorrow and love The mortal things immortals have lost above Sorrow and love, sorrow and love, sorrow and love ... I'd rather be foolish than wise searching for the definition: paradise I'd rather be less than perfect If I live one life out without regret Invulnerability, immortality, utter certainty Are not what immortals seek Vulnerability, mortality, unpredictability Are mortal things immortals dream Oh, I want no part of eternity Forever, evermore is not for me I ask only for infinity The realm of all possibility ... Sorrow and love, sorrow and love The mortal things immortals have lost above Sorrow and love, sorrow and love The mortal things immortals have forgot Sorrow and love, sorrow and love, sorrow and love ... ... sorrow and love, sorrow and love, sorrow and love. ================================================================ Shin no Freetalk: THIS is the very revised version of an OLD poem shi did sometime ago in 1997 - semi-inspired by a variety of sources: YYH, a short story of a bard named Sirit Byar in Peter S. Beagle's fantasy short story collection "Giant Bones", the movie "City of Angels", and Celine Dion's rendition of the Beatles song "Immortality". The ideas for the revisions came to shi after shi got REALLY pissed at the ending of TV Tokyo's "SENKAIDEN: HOUSHIN ENGI", and realized itself after shi started typing the teaser for "1 : 4 : ALL", the planned sequel to "smiling tears". The title was inspired by yet another fantasy short story with the same title, of elves and their mortal lovers. The POV would be from "the four from the beginning". It's a lot more fluid, and tells what shi was trying to say a long time ago ... some universal truths that shi BELIEVES in, that shi wanted to convey. Basically: 1) Life IS pain. 2) Life isn't fair. Deal with it. 3) ... the rest is all told in the poem. mail shi at kichin@doushi.org with any comments! ================================================================ Last Revised: October 12th, 2000 at 5:48 PM ================================================================
