Eiffel Tower
Famous Parisian landmark, at one point owned by Hugo Drax, though the French government refused him an export licence. Bond later met with French detective Aubergine at the tower's restaurant to find out more about Max Zorin's successes at the races, but the dinner was cut short by May Day murdering his lunchtime companion. Ejector Chair
A piece of office furniture being tested by Q Branch - instead of doing the normal chair things like reclining or lowering, this one blasts its occupant backwards at high speed. (GE)

Ejector Pouffe
An innocuous-looking piece of furniture which after Q Branch modification fires its unlucky occupant into the air with a giant spring. (TSWLM)

Ejector Seat
The most famous of Q's additions to Bond's DB5, fired by a red button hidden in the gear lever and used to get rid of an unwanted passenger with a gun. (GF)

Eggnog
A final treat for the girls at Piz Gloria before they returned home; unfortunately, it is drugged, so that they can receive a final hypnotic message from Blofeld. (OHMSS)

Electra
Greek goddess to whom Melina Havelock compares herself, saying that Greek women always avenge their loved ones. (FYEO)

Electric Eel
A water-dweller that can generate an electric charge within its body to stun or kill prey. Bond tips a trigger-happy guard at Ocean Exotica into a tank with one, discharging him from duty. (LTK)

Electric Fan
Impromptu weapon used by Bond to kill an assailant, by tossing it into a bath. (GF)

Electromagnet
One attached to a helicopter provides a convenient way of disposing of a car full of thugs (YOLT); another grabs Jaws by his steel teeth and drops him into a shark pool (TSWLM).

Electromagnetic RPM Controller
One of Q's little toys, a device worn as a ring which can force slot machines to hit a jackpot every time. He tests it at the Whyte House in Las Vegas, admitting that he's been aching to try it out. (DAF)

Electronic Camouflage Unit
The radar jamming system that prevents Drax's space station from being detected by Earth-based radar, housed on level 10 of the station. Its system number is 28. (MR)

Elephant Boy
No relation to John Merrick, but a youthful peddler of souvenir tat to tourists. His speciality is in climbing aboard boats on Bangkok's rivers. An attempt to sell a wooden elephant to Bond quickly took second place to Bond's promise of 20,000 baht if he could get Bond's spluttering boat to go any faster. When he does, however, his only reward is a push in the face and a trip back into the river. It's hard not to emphasise with his cry of "Bloody tourists!" (TMWTGG)

Elephant, Stuffed
Bond's prize for completely clearing out the shooting gallery at the Vienna fairground. (TLD)

El Scorpio Cafe
Bond's rendezvous with Johnnie after he blows up Amarez's secret base. (GF)

Emergency Stop
Bond uses this control to bring the rotation of Drax's space station to an abrupt halt, returning it to a disorienting zero-gravity environment, moments before Drax's crew are able to destroy the approaching US space shuttle. (MR)

EMP
An abbreviation for ElectroMagnetic Pulse, a side-effect of a nuclear explosion which burns out any unshielded electrical or electronic equipment within a certain radius of the blast. Zorin Industries develops a computer chip impervious to EMP (which is quickly pirated by the Soviets), and the Soviets themselves used EMP as a weapon when they built the Goldeneye satellites. Empire Chemicals
Front organisation used by MI6 as a cover for their activities. Bond poses as 'Mr Fisher', its new managing director, to meet with Mr Osato in japan. (YOLT)

Enco
A company supplying petrol in Cuba. (OP)

Escape Chamber
Stromberg's emergency evacuation system from Atlantis, containing a luxurious escape pod. It is eventually used by Bond and Anya, although they have to activate it manually after Atlantis's power is cut off. (TSWLM)

Equipment Officer
Another of Major Boothroyd's titles before he became commonly known as Q. (FRWL)

Eugenics
Disagreeable brand of science practiced by Dr Carl Mortner in his days as a Nazi scientist, which produced both Max Zorin and May Day. Oddly, nobody disapproves of the practice when it's applied to horses. (AVTAK)

European Space Commission
A pan-governmental body to whom Holly Goodhead is addressing a seminar in Venice. (MR)

Exercise Boys
A group of thugs employed by Zorin, supposedly to get his horses used to racing with other horses, though actually there to make sure than Bond didn't reach the finish. Most of them are taken out of the race by their boss's own booby-trapped hurdles. (AVTAK)

Exploder Button
Destruct device for the Intruder rocket at SPECTRE's volcano base, operated by a key. Blofeld intended that the Intruder should be destroyed after capturing a second American spacecraft, thus precipitating a war between the US and Russia; Bond is able to hit the button just moments before the capture.
