International Business Machines, supplier of PCs to the former Soviet Union - ironic, as like the USSR IBM were also once described as the 'Evil Empire'. (GE)

Iceberg Sub
A small submarine cunningly disguised as a small iceberg, piloted by Kimberley Jones and used to collect Bond from Siberia. The sub has a Union Jack painted on the inside of its hatch to make it stand out a mile in the Arctic wastes, and is luxuriously appointed inside. (AVTAK)

Identigraph

The password chosen by Moneypenny that Bond has to use to make contact in Japan, to his annoyance. (YOLT)

(Carl Rigg)
One of Whitaker's men, who has infiltrated the Gibraltar radar installations disguised as a 00 agent to sabotage the SAS/MI6 exercise and set the British and Soviet secret services against each other. Bond jumps onto the roof and battles with the impostor before the Land Rover crashes through a cliff wall and explodes. (TLD)

A magnetic ring surrounding the detonator of a Polaris warhead. If Bond had touched any part of it while he tried to remove the detonator the warhead would have exploded, but luckily his rock-steady hands see him through. (TSWLM)

Incendiary Bombs
Explosive devices used by Bond and Quarrel Jr to decimate Kananga's poppy fields. (LALD)

Indian Rope Trick
Q has a slightly improved version of this old trick, a rope that can actually remain rigid as it rose upwards. It isn't entirely perfected, though. (OP)

Inferiority Complex
The reason, Bond suggests jokingly, that he always carries a gun. (GF)

Inferno
The name of the horse ridden by Bond in his steeplechase against Zorin, along a course littered with highly dangerous mechanised fences. The horse has been implanted with one of Dr Mortner's steroid injectors, making the horse almost impossible to control when Zorin activates it. (AVTAK)

Instant Japanese
Phrase book given to Bond by Moneypenny for use in Japan. Bond gives it back, saying he doesn't need it - after all, he has a First in Oriental Languages from Cambridge. (YOLT)

"Inverted Bedpan"
Bond's uncomplimentary description of the MGB driven by Mary Goodnight. (TMWTGG)

Ionian Sea
The area in which the St Georges is sunk, off the Albanian coast. (FYEO)

Irina
(Minnie Driver)
Valentin Zukovsky's mistress, and a spectacularly mediocre country-and-western singer. (GE)

Irish Bayou
Part of the Louisiana swamps towards which Bond is headed after his escape from Kanaga's crocodile farm. (LALD)

Ithacus
The brother of Zorin's prizewinning racehorse Pegasus. The horse is expected to raise over three million dollars at auction, thanks to its relation's steroid-enhanced achievements. (AVTAK)

Ivan
One of Anya Amasova's KGB goons, whom Bond disposes of after a brief punch-up at the pyramids. (TSWLM)

Ivanova, Pola
(Fiona Fullerton)
A KGB agent who at one time had been a part of the Bolshoi Ballet during a visit to London - she had orders to seduce Bond, which was possibly the easiest assignment in history. However, Bond already knew she was with the KGB, dropping a hint by leaving her red roses in her dressing room. Bond encounters her again in San Francisco, where she is trying to determine Zorin's plans by bugging his office. Bond gets the upper hand on her again, by swapping her surveillance tape for one of oriental bath house music. (AVTAK)
