The White Snake parade is held in downtown Iwakuni. In 1998 we attended on Sunday, Oct. 18th! The white snakes of Iwakuni are considered sacred.

The white snakes are paraded down the street, and people try to touch them as they go by. Several times along the way, they stop and coil the snakes up together! There were many dancers... these were dancing while twirling their umbrellas :-)
