OBITUARY Mr. Teh Thean Choo, AMN (1/2/97)

the late Mr. TehThe Malaysia and world Buddhist community lost one of their most respected lay leader recently. Mr. Teh Thean Choo, YBAM Lay Patron, fondly known as Uncle Teh, passed away at the age of 88 on November 11, 1996.

Uncle Teh had been serving the Buddhist community since the 1950's. During his years of missionary work, he had held many important positions in the Buddhist community. He served the Buddhist Missionary Society as their preseident from 1962 to 1988. He was also a former Vice President and Executive Committee Member of the World Fellowship of Buddhist (WFB) for many terms, Chairman of WFB Selangor Centre and Vice President of the Selangor Buddhist Association.

For the younger generation, Uncle Teh is remembered for his role in the National Buddhist Youth Seminar held in 1970, which brought to the formation of the Young Buddhist association of Malaysia. He had been the lay Patron of YBAM since its inception until his recent demise.

Uncle Teh was a keen promotor of inter-sectarian understanding and had been striving to develop better relationship among the various schools of Buddhism in Malaysia. In the international arena especially in the WFB circle, he was a well-respected figure for his dedication and commiment towards international Buddhist understanding.
