Double Months
Due to the Chinese Calendar
system, there will be a year with 13 months every 2 or 3 years.
Various customs are associated with the 'repeated' months, or 'Ren Yue'
but most are seldom practised today. These months are traditionally believed
to be inauspicious and are considered a difficult time for the elderly. Thus, during these
months, the children will present a traditional confectionery representing
longevity to the elders.
If the repeated month happens to be the 8th lunar month or 'Ren Ba Yue'. The
whole year is believed to be difficult. This is because major natural disasters
in China's history tend to coincide with these years.
