A Samurai Pizza Cats Role-Playing Game |
March 20 2003
Howdy to all the folks who were directed here by the review at RPG.net. I was absolutely astounded when I popped past their site and saw this "game" reviewed there! It's been years since I updated this site and this particular section really was just designed as a tiny bit of fun for diehard Pizza Cats fans who didn't have the patience for the various PBEM SPC RPGs that used to be around (I don't know if any of them are still running!). To have anyone recognise Animaloid as worthy of review (and a positive one at that!) is a great honour I could never have imagined.
Howdy.
Welcome to a little something that I - for now - refer to as Animaloid.
Sick of AD&D (You *should* be!)? Exhausted the
possibilities of Vampire: The Masquerade and its
companion games? Finally realised Rifts is boring and crap?
Can't find the Project A-ko RPG? ^_- ... Then we've got the game for you -- it's simple, it's
easy to learn, it's hastily (and shoddily!) assembled, and all you need to have before you
can start to play is a few good friends, a few sheets of paper, a couple of pencils and some ten-sided dice.
I know the 'net is riddled with SPC PB(e)M games, but I
haven't yet found any set of rules for a good old fashioned
RPG-type RPG (if you know where to find one, please email me!).
So I wrote one. It's hardly a work of art - it's not about to win me the Nobel Prize for Game Design. But it's there. It's some small effort to plug the gap. It's a beginning for anyone who - like me - wants to sit down and role-play in the Pizza Cats universe without having to wait for the other players to email you before you know what's going on (not that there's anything wrong with that).
The game (as it currently stands) consists of 2 text files. The contents of these are explained at the beginning of the first. Hopefully *someone* will read it, and tell me all the things I left out (and all the stupid mistakes I made), so I can add to the system and fine-tune things.
Again, be warned - don't expect White Wolf or TSR to be in a great hurry to buy the rights to the game system. Read it, try it, modify it - do what you like with it. I hope that someone out there feels that at least a start has been made along the path towards an actual *good* SPC RPG ...
