why be the 'syaoran' no miko?
(I mean, when you've got characters like Touya and Yukito and Mizuki to choose from...)
Syaoran: OI!! *death-glare*
*laughs* No kidding, folks--I was asked this question not once, not twice, but *five* times in the past. And it amused me no end, when I got to thinking about it. So I decided to put up this page, and I credit its existence to the five people who mailed me about this in the first place. ^_- *You* know who you are.
If you're here, you're curious as to why I chose to be the 'Syaoran' no Miko, even when I was one of the first members on the CCSML at Onelist and there were no (or very few) prospective mikos, koibitos, et al. for characters like Touya and Yukito then. (or more likely you're just plain bored...never mind. ^^;;)
O--kay. You asked for it. Don't hate me when I start to rant. This is purely a page where I get to shoot off my mouth. ^_^
First off:DISSECTING LI SYAORAN
(Syaoran: What the @*%#?! I'm not a corpse!!)
He's a descendant of Clow Reed, the guy with the uncanny resemblance to Kino-papa. He's short, he knows magic, he views Sakura most distatefully as a rival for collecting the Cards (initially; *initially*! ^o^), and he just happens to be infatuated with the object of said Sakura's own affections, who in turn *just* happens to have a soft spot for the same Sakura's own elder brother and vice versa. (Boy, talk about love rectangles...)
Notwithstanding the fact that he can get a little bratty sometimes *snicker*, he's way too cute for his own good. Talk about *blushing*...^__^
And there you have him, people. Everyone's Favourite Chinese Grouch (kudos to Meghan Kelly-san for the term ^_^), Li Syaoran. Yes, regardless of how the combination of 'shi' and 'ya' should be spelt, *CLAMP* spells it this way and it's my favourite spelling of his name. It's also closer to the authentic Hanyu Pinyin Mandarin pronunciation. See, when I was first introduced to CCS in March this year, I remember my first impressions were 'something like Akazukin Cha Cha, but infinitely more appealing', and 'Sakura is so sweet!' I definitely had good vibes about this series.
Then I came to tankoubon 2. And saw this little boy in a sailor hat and fuku standing at the front of the classroom. 'KAWA-II!! DARE DA?!' *shimmer a la Mei-chan* He stared at Sakura like he thought his eyes were avenging laser beams capable of burning holes through her. And still later he blushed fire-engine red when he first met Yukito, and I had to fall over laughing over that. Said it already--boy meets boy, boy likes other boy, who is liked by a girl, whose brother likes said other boy. Too ironic, y'know?
I *definitely* liked the gaki, if only for his looks. ^^v
Syaoran: *sarcastically* Thanks a lot.
Anyway. I got tankoubon 3, 4 and 5 in speedy succession, and was shamefully delighted to find there was great potential in setting Sakura and Syaoran (or S-and-S, ne, Jin-love? ^_-) up as a couple. I'm not a paedophile or anything *mutter-blink*, but the Erase Card and 'Sleeping Beauty' arcs really made my day. *laugh* I know about the issue of Sakura and Tomoyo, but I'll rant about _that_ in Tomoyo's PoW.
In a nutshell, this kid intrigued me. Poor baby--sent away from home to go on a mission (past angst alert ^^), only (and youngest) boy in a family with four sisters and a mother. He lives alone cooking, cleaning and washing for himself--doesn't that *appeal* to the tender side of females out there? And hey, you gotta give him credit for being so independent. I can't even cook. *a-hem* You can tell he's not very good at handling social relations (^_^), and he has *no* idea what to make of Sakura at first. ('I'm her rival, why's she so nice to me?! O.O') And I found that confusion irresistable. ^_^ The way he gets all in a tizzy when she smiles at him, the way he protects her and doesn't really know why, and of course, the infamous scene where he screams 'SAKURA!' for the first time as she falls down that crack in the floor. *ohohoho* And other little things here and there. (including the too-cute way he gets mad at Eriol for hanging around Sakura so much, although he's not aware of it himself)
Syaoran is cool. Serious. ^_^ He can be a brat, but hell, kid's only in fourth grade and can't be expected to have such a high level of maturity...
Syaoran: I HEARD THAT!
*cackle*...he's so adorable when he's shy/embarrassed/flustered/_jealous_ *snicker*, AND his name means 'little wolf' in Mandarin. Spiffy, huh? I have this slight obssession with the wolf species, as can be seen from my fixation with Saitoh Hajime from RK and the twenty wolf plushies in my bedroom. That's why I make kinda an issue out of 'wolves' in some of the fics, as the readers might have noticed. ^__- He doesn't really behave like a wolf, though, he's not old enough. So he's a wolf cub! ^o^
Syaoran: *hands fisted* Kono *yarou*...
*byan* And THAT was the deciding factor in my becoming his miko. Ha~i!
Syaoran: It was unmistakably the worst day of my life when she decided that.
In closing, I give the lad a hard time, but I really do love him.
Touya: *thoughtfully* That is extremely hard to believe...
Syaoran: How did *you* get here?
Touya: None of your business, gaki.
*stare* *Stare* *STARE*
*ignores staring idiots* Li Syaoran is unquestionably one of my favourite CCS characters. Long live the Wolf of Grouchiness! All hail! ^__^
Oh, and minna-san, please remember that *I* am the first, the _only_, and the ORIGINAL Syaoran no Miko! *Syaoran sweatdrops* Heh. Shameless plugging. So sue me, I'm a possessive person. *snigger* Any other would-be 'SnMs', beware!
Yeah, that about concludes the dissection. And if you're still reading, congrats. You deserve a Pocky. Have one.
Ja ne!
