"Subarashii desu wa~!"

Though Jacky often protests the fact, I *do* like Tomoyo-chan. Honest. It's just that she's given me white hairs with some of the costumes I've seen poor Sakura forced into. Yeah, that's right--I like Tomoyo, but not her costumes. Hee.

I just don't go for frills, animals, ribbons and the like on battle costumes. >_< I don't know what CLAMP was on when they came up with the costume ideas...they're certainly creative...if you look at it one way...*_* But I'm getting sidetracked here. Sorry.

Ahem. Tomoyo-chan clicks with me because of her overall great personality. She's just as sweet as Sakura, extremely polite, and extremely considerate and gentle. Her list of talents include perpetually-shining report cards, a lovely singing voice, and all-round capability in most areas. Add that whacking big mansion and uniformed female bodyguards, and what's not to like? ^_^ As an extra bonus to prevent her from becoming a Mary Sue, she's totally, *totally* obsessed with Our Heroine. God knows how many tapes of Sakura that AV room of hers is stuffed with, or how much $$$ she's spent in cloth materials to make Sakura's battle costumes...0_o Ouch. 'Sakura-chan is the most-cutest-and-adorable thing in the world,' etc. etc. *Ouch*. From Sakura's point of view, anyway.

And yet underneath the exterior silliness and frills, it's obvious CLAMP has made our soprano girl a much more complex character than she seems to be. You might have expected her to be Meiling II and drive off anyone else who looks at Sakura That Way, but it can be seen she actually encourages Li-kun in his er, conquest for Cherry Blossom, because 'Sakura-chan's happiness is my happiness.' Which means she's not going to force her attentions on Sakura when she could get a better chance at happiness with someone else. Whew. Plus she's only second to Eriol in the way of Niko-Niko and 'I Know Something You Don't Know'. That alone *speaks* for itself. People who smile too much almost always have secrets. ^^;

tomoyo and sakura

This thing about falling in love with girl cousins named after flowers must run in the female side of Tomoyo's family...n.n

Tomoyo loves very unconditionally, always putting Sakura's happiness above hers. Given the opportunity, she might well sacrifice her life for Sakura if there was a need for her to. And so she doesn't mind not being able to be with Sakura as lovers when she feels that Sakura will be happier off than Li-kun. Thus we have tankoubon 9 and 10, where she gets involved in some serious Syaoran Pep Talks. ^_^

Mind I mean 'doesn't mind' in the sense that she doesn't fault Sakura OR Syaoran for liking each other. Her self-sacrificialness only allows her to reason that she does not, should not and cannot take away a chance for Sakura-chan to be happy. But I often wonder what will happen in the future. "I'm happy if you're happy" might be a great philosophy to stand by, but it still sucks IMO. Tomoyo-chan really believes in what she says, but how far can it sustain her?

Tomoyo is fun. Not only fun, she provides me with great food for thought and clothes to goggle over while wondering if their creator was on Mr. Pibb at 3 in the morning. ^_^

Ganbatte ne, Tomoyo-chan!

P.S -- For anyone who *might* just be pondering any possible alternatives for our favourite Costume Designer, may I suggest you take a look at my Tin-oneechan's excellent 'Turn'. It's a 'what-if' pairing Tomoyo and Eriol, and is more than plausible from the way it's written.
