Part I
By: Rachael This is a rather dark fic about Sailor Jupiter's past and future.
Makato sighed as she sat in plush dark green leather chair and stared out at the world her balcony overlooked. It wasn't much of a scene...at least not to Makato in her depressed mood. But when she was happy, the lush green garden and flower fields would sparkle with life, and the Earth would shine back at her with a smile, and the stars twinkled their secrets to her. But lately, the garden just seemed so barren and the fileds so lonely, the Earth would laugh at her, telling her she wasn't worthy, and the stars' harsh glare got in her eyes, blinding her.
Makato closed the glass doors to the balcony and untied the thick, green velvet drapes. She let out a deep sigh and dropped onto her light green covered bed. The king size canopy bed had high, metal Ivy leaf poles reaching up to the beautifully painted ceiling. There, on the ceiling was a mural depicting the creation of Jupiter, glorious happinings from Jupiter, and of course the beautiful goddess Jupiter herself as she blessed the planet with her own name. This was Makato's room.
Though she loved her surroundings, her friends, life would just get so boring at times, especially now since she was all alone in the east wing. For a long time, Haruka and Michiru had been sharing the wing with her, but recently no one's heard from them. Their departure for the coming war was expected, but the worst wasn't when all communications ended. But for Makato, the worst part was, the fact that today is Usagi's 14th birthday, and there's suppossed to be a big party, a huge celecbration to announcer her taking over as Sailor Moon. Makato didn't really have a reason to be sad, she just was and for such a great historical day, it just wasn't right to her.
Everyone's going to be there, Makato thought to herself. It's the biggest event since the completion of the Silver Palace during the first century of the Silver Millienium, what is there to be sad about? All your friends will be there... well, all the ones that aren't...
A knock at Makato's large oak doors braught her to reality, if anthing at least to her senses. The door opened and a girl with long blonde hair and a red ribbon walked in. She had a sweet expression on her kind face, and her flowing dress made her dazzling. Dazzling, Makato thought, that was a long time ago...
"Hey girl. You okay? Are you still depressed over Zoisite, Mako-chan?" the blonde sat down on the bed and asked her brunete friend. Makato clenched her fists and turned over on the bed.
"Mako... that was a long time ago," the blonde said quietly. She laid a sympathetic hand on the taller girl's shoulder. "We all lost someone, and we miss them just as much as you do. Poor Malacite..."
"I know Minako, but it's just so hard to believe that they would turn against us..." Makato said, sitting up and giving her a sad face.
"Mako-chan, you know it wasn't their choice. You know Evil Queen Baryle brain washed them. They don't chose to be evil, they just are. These things happen." Minako said, gripping Makato's hands in hers tightly. She gave her a fierce look and Makato knew that her closest friend Minako was convincing herself as well.
"But..."
"You've got to get over him," Minako said.
"I've tried!! Lord knows I've tried!!" Makato said despretly with tears in her eyes. "Lord knows!! But it's so hard! It's like trying to forget your heart's torn in two, or trying to eat a rainbow, or trying to give back my transformation wand. It can't be done, and once you've fallen in love, you never forget." Makato looked for understanding in Minako's silent face as Makato's tears of bitterness ran down her cheeks.
"Such is love..." Minako whispered. Makato wrapped her arms around her friend and they embraced in a tight hug. It was short lived and they quickly broke apart.
"Listen Mako-chan, I want you to just forget all about Zoisite. I want you to have fun at Princess Serenity's party, and that's an order from the Leader." Minako told her with a smile streaking accross her face. Makato gave her a weak smile and Minako walked out to get ready for the upcoming ball.
Makato sighed and whipped the rest of the tears from her face. She walked over to her closet and opened a set of double oak doors. After pulling out several pale green dresses and discarding them after studying them emensly for several long minutes, she finally decided on the most beautiful in the whole closet. It was an elegent silk dress with straps that sat on her upper arms. The straps were pale green and the rest of the dress was a rich shimmering green. The back was low cut and each strap was connected to the front of the dress with a pinch of magic and a beautiful gem surrounded by a tuft of light green silk. In the center of the green gem was the symbol of Jupiter, in all it's dazzling glorry. There was another one of these gems at her waste which clasped a light green satin cloth to her right hip.
Makato smiled at the dress, it was one of her many own creations. It was her passion. With her magic, she often would design her own dresses. The others could do it too if hey wanted, but most of them had other things to do, more important things. There was a lot Makato did that the others didn't... Makato shook the thoughts out of her head. She had to get ready for the ball. It would be starting within the hour. She smiled once again at her dress.
Pulling on a pale green pair of high heels and a shimmery high pair of pale green glooves, she went over to her jewelry box. In side, she kept her most prized possessions. They were the only things that tied her to her past. They were her only possesions from her home planet Jupiter. Inside was a pair of red rose earrings. These were givin to her at birth by her mother, the Queen of Jupiter, who died when Makato was 5. She also had a very small ring and bracelet, both of gold. They were from when she was a baby, and her dad had given them to her for her very 1st birthday. He died shortly after she turned 14, only months after the abduction of her lover Ziosite.
Makato had taken it pretty hard, and she still missed them all greatly. Now, with both her parents gone, her little brother was running her world with the help of the trusted advisors. He was only 10. Makato planned on visiting as soon as the war was over with Queen Baryle. Hopefully, Queen Selenity would let her stay there due to the tragic family conditions.
"I guess that's the only real reason I refuse to accept Zoisite being gone..." Makato said to herself as she opened a drawer inside the box. Inside was the one and only peice that truely linked her to her royal heritage. It was a bright green gem necklace. The thin gold chain strunge two pearls around the gem. Outside the gem was a gold border, inlaid with 4 other stones, each with a symbol in the center of it. One red with the symbol of Mars, one orange with Venus in the center, one light blue with Mercury in it, and the last was a warm color of white with the symbol of the cresent moon inlaid into it. And inside her own green gem was the symbol of Jupiter. Though it seemed chunky, it was really a delicate femine peice of jewelry.
The necklace had long ago been designed by the past rulers of the planets. The Inner soliders recieved one with their respective planets in the center and the others surrounding it. The Outer soliders recieved ones with only the outer planet symbols on them. And on the the back of each one was an ingraving of the true owner of the piece. Because the necklaces were forged by the magic of each planet's origanal ruler, the gold on the back would mold it's self into a picture of the user.
Makato grabbed this peice and strung it accross her neck. It was a perfect match. Makato tied her long brown hair up on top of her head, and then set out to the ball. Just as she was reaching to close the door to her room, she remembered her transformation stick. As the princess's protector, Makato had to carry it with her always. She also needed it so that she could transform and help make the firecracks with the others. She didn't know weather to conciderate it a privlage or a burden. Luckily, the wand was pure magic, which meant it could easily fit inside the magical gem around her neck. She pushed the pen into her necklace jewel and then went to the party.
akato walked into the ballroom where a full orchestra played cheerful music. The orchestra, all the way from Neptune, had been brought in a month before the war started. Origanally, Michiru, their leading violinist, had volunteered to play, but she hasn't been heard from since she went to defend the outer planets as Sailor Neptune almost 2 months ago.
The crowds had already started to gather and dance in the room, and Makato was 30 minutes early. She stopped to say hello to a few ambassidors from the destroyed outer planets and give them her condolences before she went to get a drink of punch at the buffet table. There she met up with Minako-chan.
"Good to see you smiling Mako-chan," Minako said cheerfully to her partner. Dressed in a tight light orange dress, ankle high orange high heels, and orange glooves that ran only to the wriste, Minako was looking very sexy. She was hoping to find someone to fill the empty place in her heart. The short party dress she wore was one Makato had designed for her years ago when she was rather new at the royalty game. Still, Minako enjoyed wearing it and Makato loved it when Minako would wear the clothes she made for her. Makato noticed she was wearing her royal stone necklace as well, only hers was orange with Venus in it, and had Jupiter, Mercury, Mars and the moon surrounding it.
"Yes, this is the Princess's birthday after all," a girl dressed in an elegant blue dress said. Her blue hair was cut short, and she had an air about of pure intelligence. She was Ami, the Solider of Mercury, and the smartest of the Sailor Soliders. She wore a long blue dress and elbow long gloves. Ami also wore her royal stone necklace. Holding the blue gem of Mercury was a gold border with Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and the moon encrusted into it.
With Mercury came the lovely Mars. She was the firery spirit of the team, and she never gave up. She was a fierce fighter and she was stubborn. But she was a true friend, even if you did have a fight every once in a while, she'd always have your back. Decked out in a formal red gown, Rei gave a smile to every man in the room. But it wasn't a smile for keeps, it was a bored smile, one that hid her true sorrow. She was very torn up over the lose of Jadeite, and she was hit worse than Jupiter. Still, even she could get on.
Rei was always the stylish type. She always knew just the right styles to wear that would be the hit for the next month, and today was no exception. Instead of wearing her royal stone necklace as a necklace, she decided to dress up her hair and use it to decorate her new hair style. Her black hair was up in a bun, tied with the neckalce, and then let to fall to her shoulders.
"Looking as stylish as ever," Makato said to Rei.
"Thank you. You like my dress? Gucci sent it to me all the way from home," Rei gave the girls a twirl of her strapless red dress. It was skimpy and formal all at the same time as it clung slightly to her curves and then began to drape off at the waste due to a rather large slit up her left side.
"It's very nice, Rei-chan, but how did you afford the cost of shipping from Mars?" Ami asked.
"Well, it was fairly easy..." Rei tried to start when a large burst of cheers echoed throughout the large ball room chambers. People began to clap, and everyone turned to look at the steps. There stood the Queen and Princess of the Moon Kingdom. Queen Selenity cleared her throat.
"Hello, and welcome to the clebration of my daughter's 14th birthday. As you well know, it is mine as well, and that is why we are going to feature the Sailor Solider Firework Display tonight. Please, enjoy yourselves and forget whatever may be troubling you. You've been invited to have fun, and thank you for coming." The Queen smiled and the Princess looked around. The crowd watched for another moment then went back to dancing. The princess came down the steps into the crowd, only to be asked to dance by a rather handsome man in a tuxedo and mask.
"Wow, isn't that guy with Princess Serenity just a hunk?" Rei asked her friends.
"Babe-a-licious," Minako said to her friends with a huge smile on her face.
"It's Prince Darien," Makato said mildly.
"From Earth?" Rei asked in a whisper. Makato nodded.
"Why are we whispering?" Minako asked.
"He's not supposed to be here," Ami said.
"That's right, we're in the middle of a war. If someone were to recognize him..." Makato started.
"Like one of us..." Rei suggusted.
"Or a guard..." Minako finished.
"He'd be arrested on the spot, and probably called a spy," Makato finished grimly.
"You aren't going to arrest him, are you?" Minako asked with a worried expression.
"He's the Princess's fiancee, you can't," Rei yelled.
"Keep it down!" Ami said, looking to see if anyone over heard them.
"Oh, sorry," Rei gave them a stupid grin.
"No, I'm not going to stop them. As you say, they are to be wed. But I am going to have a quick word with him," Makato said, walking towards the pair. The playing began to wind down to a finish.
"Mako-chan!" Minako called. Makato waved a hand at her without even turning around, and continued on her way. The band finished the song, and just as well because she didn't want to be rude.
"Hello Princess," Makato gave her a small smile.
"Hello Makato," Prince Darien said quietly.
"Hello Prince," Makato said rather quietly.
"Hello Mako-chan, how are you? I hope you are enjoying yourself," Serenity said to her sweetly.
"Yes Princess, a wonderful time." Makato turned to the prince. "I'm not here to arrest anyone, but I'm sure both of you know that I'm under strict orders from the Queen not to let anyone from the other planets onto the Moon. Tonight, I'll make an exception, and I'm sorry I have to say this but this will be your last time to see each other until after the war." The couple gave her a worried glance. Makato smiled at them, but it wasn't a smile for keeps.
"Happy birthday, Princess Serenity. I hope you enjoy it. Nice to see you again, Tuxedo Mask," Makato winked at him and he smiled back at her. Serenity smiled as well, and they went off to find a balcony.
An hour of dancing later, around midnight, the Queen announced the begining of the Fireworks.
"Alright, girls, time to get this show started," Minako said to them.
"Right," they chanted. To the room's surprise, a talking white cat streaked into the room.
"Everyone to battle stations! Queen Baryle's here! Get out of here now!!" the cat yelled.
"Artemis! What's going on?" Minako asked her feline friend.
"Queen Baryle's attacking! Hurry, transform!" Artemis ordered them. The girls pulled their wands from the gems on their necks and shouted.
"Mercury Power!"
"Mars Power!"
"Venus Power!"
"Jupiter Power!
Captured in a spectacular storm of lights, the girls shead their beautiful dresses only to be replaced by fashionable fighting uniforms designed by the Queen back when she was their age and training to use her powers. The Princess would begin training in a few months to be Sailor Moon, if the time should ever come to that. It was mostly learning martial arts and how to master her powers. It was the Moon's Princess's birth right, just like it was for all the other planet's first born princesses.
After transforming into their Sailor Suits, the girls headed out to the battle field. Upon arriving, they were startled to see Prince Darien's friends at the gate. They were each princes to kingdoms on the dark side of the moon, but that didn't mean they were bad. They were some of Darien's most loyal friends. Makato, now Sailor Jupiter, grit her teeth together, as she realized that the men were all the Solider's lost loves. There was Malacite, with his white hair and Negaverse army general suit on, Ziosite, his orange hair tied back as usual and a Negaverse Colonal suit on, Neflite, his long brown hair streaming down his back in waves and his Luetennent stripes on the sholder of his uniform, and finally there was Jadeite, his soft golden hair framing the face of a man wearing the mear garb of a Private General. They were once Darien's best friends, and the Sailor Solider's lovers, but now, they were generals to the evil forces.
Makato bit her lip. If there was anything she knew it was that she'd have to destroy these generals, her friends, to survive and to protect the...
"Princess!" Jupiter cried out suddenly. The other Soliders turned to look at her. "I've got to go protect the princess!" Jupiter said, looking to Sailor Venus for permission. Venus, the leader of the Soliders until Sailor Moon took her rightful place, nodded and then turned back to the monsters streaming threw the palace gates. Jupiter looked back at her team mates, now down to 3, and assessed the damage quickly. There were hundreds of monsters and humans under the 4 general's comanads, and then there was a large shadow creature. All were very powerful, and all were formidable. For a second, Jupiter wondered if maybe she should stay behind.
Venus turned around to check if her team mate had gone yet. Surprised and angry that she hadn't, Venus glared and barked at her. "Jupiter, get going now! Go protect the princess!!" Coming out of her haze, Jupiter nodded once again and then dashed off to the palace. Jupiter, knowing a faster route to the Princess's living quarters, took a small detour to the pond. Surprisingly, there were battles going on over here as well between Moon Men and Negaverse Monsters. Jupiter helped out the closest to her, using the first trick she had ever learned in her training as a Solider to the princess. It was a rather simple trick in which you concentrate and the power flows to your finger tips. When you touch somebody or thing, the power will kill them. It had taken a long time to master, but once she had it was a very effective technique. Knowing and mastering it made her true power easier to find and master. It had taken her the longest to master. Jupiter used the trick much easier now, and was able to carry on her mission with little delay.
Upon arriving to the steps leading to the pool, Jupiter was too stunned by what she witnessed before her to even walk up the steps. Darien, royal Prince of Earth, was sheilding Princess Serenity, heir to the Moon Kingdom's throne, from the evil queen of the Negaverse herself, Queen Baryle. Drawing his sword from the scabard, Darien lunged at the Queen, only to be repelled with one blast and then sucked into one of her energy waves. Princess Serena, too over come with greif, dashed to his rescue, and was pulled into Baryle's stream of dark energy, where she was killed. Jupiter stood in shock as Queen Selenity gaped in horror and Baryle laughed it up.
Jupiter ran from the scene, tears streaming down her face, failor racing in her mind, and the sound of death ringing in her ears. Running as far from the scene as she could, she blindly wipped at the tears streaking down her cheeks. Stumbling on a rock from the crumbling palace, Jupiter landed in the palace's royal rose bushes. Twisting and flaying, she desperatly thrashed in the thorny bushes, trying to get out. Finally, she was able to regain her footing and she stood once again, ignoring the rest of the thorns ripping at her skin and clutching to her clothes. She walked towards where she had last seen the other Sailor Soliders. To her dismay, she could only see Sailor Venus, and that was only because she was still fighting, despite her condition.
Completely surrounded by monsters, Venus laid on the dismembered forms of the ones she had defeated. Jupiter was only spotted her because of an intense light that frequently shot out at the monsters, knocking them dead. Venus used her last remaining energy to beat off all she could before she fell in defeat. Jupiter finished off the last ones surrounding her and rushing over to her side. Jupiter clasped her friend in her arms as tears fell onto cold, unfeeling, blood stained ground.
"Jupiter!" Venus exclaimed in surprise. "What happened? Where's the princess?"
Jupiter sobbed into her shoulder. "Oh Mina-chan!! It's all my fault! I let the princess die! And now, you... you're...you're...!" Jupiter looked up at Venus as her tears ran down her dusty face.
Venus gave Jupiter a hard look. "Jupiter, now, more than ever, the Queen needs you. You must find her, and save her. You're the only one left."
"But, Venus, you..." Jupiter stammered.
"It's too late for me! Remember you mission Mako-chan! This is the day we've been training for! GO!" Venus commanded. Jupiter gave her a hesitent look then left her friend. Venus whipped the sudden tears from her eyes. To her surprise, a large dark shadow fell over her battered form, but she was too slow. The blue eyed man sliced the beautiful Venus down with one flick of the mighty sword her carried. Jadeite bit his lip in bitter distaste. He didn't want to kill, not Venus, not anyone, but Baryle was in controll now. And deep within him, Jadeite knew with the blow, he would die at the hands of the Sailor Soilders, but Jadeite was already dead, only his dark energy consumed form remained.
Running back to the Queen, Jupiter killed all the monsters around her without notice. Destroying each with a singal command as she passed it, but never remembering it through her haze. Jupiter ran as fast and hard as she could, despite the now rocky terrain, the corpses of her friends, and blurred vision. Only once did she fall, and she didn't even notice. She justed picked herself right back up and kept running. Makato was almost to the rose bushes when a huge shadow monster blocked her path. Jupiter jumped back in surprise.
"I shall kill you little Sailor Scout!" the hidous creature spoke to her in it's rumbling voice. Jupiter gaped at it for a second then glared at it vicously. The monster smiled a wicked toothy grin, and swung at her with a massive black claw, or that's Makato suspected it to be. She jumped over the claw, was forced to back flip away from a swip with the other one, and was forced to block another attack. Desperately trying to find an opening, Jupiter continued to dodge it's attempts at ending her life. Jupiter, determined to help the Queen more then ever, found his flaw, his one mistake that would cost him his life. Concentrateing, Jupiter began her attack.
"Jupiter Thunder Crash!" Lightning, gathered by her antenna, shocking the shadowy beast to it's knees. To Makato's great surprise, the creature mearly stood up once again and laughed. "What?" Jupiter asked.
"You see? You can not defeat me! I am power itself, and nothing can destroy me!" The beast let out a laugh that could curdle milk, and Jupiter was sure it did, somewhere. The shadow warrior grinned and swipped at her once again, catching her completely off guard. Jupiter was thrown back several feet, she screamed and doubled over onto her knees, clutching her side. Her wound was fatal, and she grit her teeth as her very life escence drained from her body.
Blood poured out between her hands and into dieing grass. Clenching her fists, Jupiter swore a bitter oath to herself to forever destroy this monster, no matter what. To both her and the monster's surprise, a shimmering light caught both their attention. The monster cringed at the light. Makato could hear a faint whisper as the light got brighter.
"Please, send them to Earth, bind the evil, and let them live a normal life...Cosmic Moon Power!" the voice, gental and sure, could only belong to the Queen. Jupiter cringed as the light expanded at the last words to engulf her and the monster. She screamed as pain racked her body, then her world went white. When she did wake up moments later, she could see she was in a bubble, with the Queen crying on a near by pillar. She looked weak, and she was holding her most powerful weapon, the Cresent Moon Wand. Looking at herself, Makato realized she was healed, but she also realized that none of the others were looking around as they floated in their bubbles. She tried calling to them, but they didn't seem to hear, and that's when Makato noticed she was floating in space, towards the planet Earth. Taking a final glance, before another onslaught of light enveloped her, she noticed that even the evil forces of the Negaverse were coming with her and her friends.
"I have sent everyone to Earth. Because Baryle had Serena, I couldn't kill her. They are all dead, and so I am reincarnating them on Earth without their memories. I pray there will be peace, but it is up to you if Baryle should attack again. You know what you must do. Protect the Sailor Soliders and the Moon Princess. Good luck Luna and Artemis!" The Queen whispered to them in a weak voice. Both cats nodded.
"Yes," they said in unison before the Queen dropped her Cresent Moon Wand and they were sent to Earth with it. The Queen watched them go as a tear rolled down her cheek and she died, her last energy put forth in sending everyone to Earth.
