After parting with Hans Fersen, Oscar felt sad and lonely as she sat in her room in the dark. Andre came in to see her and asked to the lights on. When he saw Oscar in pain, he felt that he could not control his love any longer – he revealed to Oscar that for all these years, he had loved no other but her, and that if he was going to let some other men have her, he would rather die. After dealing with the Knight, Oscar's sympathy towards him made she help him to get away. And since he was deeply in love with Rosalie, Oscar agreed to marry Rosalie off to him, on terms that he'll never be a thief again. Oscar, meanwhile, who was not happy with the decay and the social influences of the Royal place, asked the queen to demote her from her position as the Head Commander of the Palace Royal Guards to the Commander of the French Guards, which were consisted of rough soldiers with dubious backgound and perhaps records of crime. There, she encountered problems with the soldiers as they were not willing to be under the command of a female. She took up these challenges with good will, and after she won the duel with Alan, their "captain", she gradually won the hearts of these soldiers through some rough pounding fists. Things seemed to be okay in the camp of the guards thereafter but Andre's right eye was getting worse, as he could not see well very often.
