Throughout their stay in Ada, the monks will create a mandala sand painting, an intricate, traditional work created with grains of crushed, vegetable-dyed marble funneled into a complex pattern over several days. The act of constructing it is considered a way to reach the enlightened state, and each grain of sand is painstakingly poured to generate energies for global healing. When the mandala is finished, it is destroyed by pouring it down a river to allow the water to flow to the ocean and circulate the healing. The public is invited to watch the monks at work at any of these times:

Thursday, March 1, 2001 -- noon to 6 p.m.
Friday, March 2, 2001 -- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday, March 3, 2001 -- 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 4, 2001 -- 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

We hope you'll join us for one or all of these events!
