During these years Gyanji, had the opportunity to come in close contact with Pandit Ravi Shankarji. Gyanji was impressed by the wealth of knowledge, sensitivity and creativity of Pandit Ravi Shankarji and thus started learning Sitar, under the guidance of this illustrious maestero. Pandit Ravi Shankarji was equally happy about Gyanji's talents, sincerity and dedication to music and thus adopted him as his disciple in 1958 for Sitar.

Gyanji toured across the country, for several years along with his master and Ustad Allarakha and has witnessed countless public performances of Raviji, often accompanying him on the Tanpura. This experience added a rich flavour of performing acumen along with a purist blend to his learning of music. Gyanji's knowledge and experience, stand an authentic testimony to the originality of Raviji's music in the prime years of his zestful musical career.

With highly versatile command over Sitar, he has performed in many programmes with a wide audience appeal in concert halls all over the country. He follows the "Gayaki Ang" (Vocal Simulation) of playing Sitar. He has a unique style of playing Alaap, Jod and Gat with great ease. He has been constantly enriching his immense knowledge of classical music, with serious self-motivated research for over thirty-five years. This pioneering effort has made him a sheer genius of rare combination. His artistic acumen firmly stands on the foundations of traditional puristic values coupled with novelty, very much along the path of his Guru Pandit Ravi Shankarji. Apart from being a performing artist of top ranking calibre, Gyanji has shared his god gifted talent with a number of his students, which include prominent industrialists, businessmen and professionals in and around Mumbai.
