Hi! I am Dorothea Fayne. Thank you for visiting my site. I am a young, New York City based, American opera singer. For the past four and a half years I have been living, studying, and performing in New York City. And I have just released my first CD: Dawnings among other things. I have also made a short documentary-film in Munich last month. It is called "Skippy and Dodo." It is right now in the editting stage, and should be finished in September of 1999. It is about me and my parrot-- her name is Skippy!!! This past November I returned to New York City from Europe, where I studied, took lessons, practiced, and attended a music festival in Germany. The music festival was called FRAU MUSICA (NOVA). It was held in the city of Köln, Germany. I did have a lot of fun in Europe... But not too much, of course.. In January I went back to Germany again auditioning and singing concerts. By March I made my way to Munich to meet another young singer and exchange ideas and music. Later that month I moved for a while to Munich. It is a beautiful, passionate, musical city. And in September I should be back there singing for the Opera House... At the moment I am in Italy. Here I am practicing everyday in a beautiful church, built by the Romans. I have also sung as a soloist in a Basilica after the Mass. And I was a soloist with a small choir... Where is Dorothea in Italy... Well, that mystery will be answered in a week or two, when you come back to visit my site, or please write to me via email... While I was in Köln in November I met a young, Vietnamese composer-- Tran Kim Ngoc-- from Hanoi, Vietnam. She is presently writing an orchestral piece for me. If things go right I may be able to sing this piece in Vietnam. I also met Meredith Monk in November. She is a wonderful singer and composer. I even had the great priviledge to meet with her again here in New York City in January before returning to Germany. I just finished writing an Opera. It was written here in the United States and in Germany. Some of the music was written on the long train rides between my auditions and lessons in Europe. Other parts of the opera were written in a noisy coffee shop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It is called . This is a One Act Opera-Drama about artists, singers, painters, writers, dancers, and musicians or color. I have written this Opera in honor of my Mentor, one of the greatest Sopranos of our Century and in those to come... I will be singing in the United States and in Europe over the next year, and I will post all of these performances on the last page of my website. Please be patient. This website is under construction, especially since so many changes are taking place in my musical and artistic life... I am now updating this site a little. It is July and I am living in Italy... It is beautiful here... so only God knows what is next. Meanwhile I am meeting musicians from Austria, Germany, Chile, France, and Italy... and about upcoming performances in the USA and Europe. |
is my first CD. It has arias, recits, artsongs, and original electronic music on it. Some of the composers included are John Dowland, Christoff W. von Gluck, George Bizet, Gustav Mahler, Franz, Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Charles Ives, and Gaetano Donizetti. The artwork is original. POETIC MOMENT: IN THOSE YEARS In those years, people will say, we lost track of the meaning of we, of you we found ourselves reduced to I and the whole thing became silly, ironic, terrible: we were trying to live a personal life and yes, that was the only life we could bear witness to But the great dark birds of history screamed and plunged into our personal weather They were headed somewhere else but their beaks and pinions drove along the shore, through the rags of fog where we stood, saying I 1991 Adrienne Rich |
