Ames Choral Society (ACS)

Our choir sings!
The Ames Choral Society encourages participation in fine choral music. For 34 years, men and women from Ames and the surrounding area have been singing sacred and secular choral literature. Selections include folk songs, spirituals, musical theater selections and larger works.

The Ames Choral Society presents at least two formal concerts a year, plus a cabaret-style variety show and a "sing-along" Messiah. We participate in Ames community events, such as "Art in the Park" and "Artburst". During the 1998-1999 we plan to present seasonal music in December and a complete performance of Handel's Messiah in the spring.

Join our Choir!

If you are a singer, please join us. Rehearsals are on Mondays from 7:15-9:15 pm at St. Andrews Lutheran Church beginning August 31 , 1998. New members may join on August 31 or September 14 rehearsals for the full singers. New singers may also join on January 11 or 18 for the second half of the seasons.

There are no auditions, but regular attendance and yearly membership dues are required. The dues pay our director and accompanist, buy music and cover concert costs. We also have half-season dues, and discounts for additional members in the same household. For information call our director Steve Hoifeldt at 232-4832.

How you can help bring choir music to Ames, Iowa.

Although the Ames Choral Society members pay dues, the dues are not adequate to cover expenses each year. For example, some performances involve extra expenses such as hiring an orchestra and renting music. We would like your help. Contributions of any size are welcome, and deeply appreciated. For a contribution of $50 or more, you will receive two free tickets to a concert of your choice. (Specify December, February Cabaret, or April.)
