As torrents in summer
muziek: Sir Edward Elgar (1857 - 1934)
tekst: Henry Longfellow (1807 - 1882)
As torrents in summer, | Zoals beekjes in de zomer, |
half dried in their channels | half verdroogd in hun beddingen, |
suddenly rise, | plotseling aanzwellen, |
tho'the sky is still cloudless, | hoewel de lucht nog steeds wolkenloos is, |
for rain has been falling, | want er is regen gevallen, |
far off at their fountains; | ver weg, bij hun oorsprong; |
So hearts that are fainting, | Zo raken wegkwijnende harten, |
grow full to o'erflowing, | tot barstens toe gevuld, |
and they that behold it marvel, | en zij die het zien verwonderen zich, |
and know not, | en weten niet, |
that God at their fountains, | dat God aan hun oorsprong, |
far off, has been raining. | ver weg, voor regen heeft gezorgd. |
