I discovered John's music when I was 14 and going to the shopping mall with my family. A tape with his songs was in our car, I listened to it and my 1st feeling was "So slow"...It was "Sunshine On My Shoulders", a slow song indeed. But I listened to the w
ole song and to the other songs and I immediately fell in love!! I loved his wonderful voice, his wonderful songs...I bought 2 scorebooks and learnt his songs on the piano...much better than studying the usual exercises! That year I entered the high schoo
and it was a litle shocking, new people, new subjects, new place...I used to think "Country roads take me home to the place I belong..." to cheer me up during the lessons! But the best moments with John's songs were my holidays: we were driving through t
e country and the forests of central Italy, listening to him. For me it was like driving in Colorado...I could imagine we were there, not in central Italy! I can't describe the feeling of his songs, they made me cry, laugh, hop, relax...he was always with
me in important moments, when I was tired studiyng, when I was crying, when I was in love (I was fond of a boy and nearly obliged him to listen to John Denver!!), when I was angry...he helped me so much! When I read that terrible thing I couldn't breath f

of course, I am from West Virginia. It gave us a
better image than the country had of us. We have a most beautiful state and are truly mountain people in love with God, nature and all that is here. As in all the world we also have our misfits, criminals, etc. But I am one who believes in we have to
hange and accept others for themselves and not for their beliefs or color or race. John Denver's songs gave me those thoughts. Oh, how I remember when he first started to sing years ago. He was just a young boy who set about to sing to us about all that

I've been a HUGE John Denver fan for 20+ years. I met John very briefly a couple of times at Blossom Music Center in Ohio. (He called me "Darlin'." Sigh.)
I was thrilled to meet John's mom Erma, John's uncle Abe and aunt Sammie, John's ex-wife Annie and son Zak in Aspen last October. They all were as warm, kind, fun and gracious as you would expect John's family to be.
