The Fredericton SchoolGirl Choir



The Fredericton SchoolGirl Choir is a vibrant group of 60 singers, between the ages of 9 and 18, from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Formerly known as "The District 18 Girls' Choir", the choir celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1998.

The choir has earned many accolades and awards. In 1993, the choir won the Junior Star of the Fredericton Music Festival, an honour bestowed upon it several times since. It was awarded the
Dr. English Trophy for best choir in the children's category at the National Music Festival in Victoria, BC. By invitation, the girls sang at the International Choral Festival, "The Joy of Singing" in Toronto.

In 1995, the choir performed at the International Choral Festival, in Arnhem, Holland. It also gave concerts in Elst, Loenen and Westminister Abbey, London, England.

In 1996, the choir merited two gold medals at the Maritime Music Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The choir has had the pleasure of performing Mozart's Laudate Dominum with Wendy Nielsen, a soprano who has had her debut at the Metropolitan Opera Company.

In the summer of 1998, the choir toured the East Coast of the US and gave concerts in Boston, Washington D.C., Virginia and New York. In addition, the girls participated in a clinic led by Cassandra Morgan, one of Massachusetts' finest student choral directors.

The choir has been invited to perform this summer in Ottawa as part of the Unisong 2000 Festival. They will be performing with choirs from across Canada in a massed choral performance at the Ottawa Civic Centre on July 1. In addition they will be performing individually in various venues throughout Ottawa.
