What a pleasure to find this site. I knew Anna was
popular back when, but thought I was one of a few
who adored her. I am cursed with perfect pitch,
and few sopranos can hit that note on the first try, and stay on it! It's actually painful for me.
Our Anna's voice was strong, clear, and true. Thank you, you made my day.

Ive gotta say your way off saying that stuff about her performance in LA RODINE it is such a sweet opera and annas performace is the best ive heard, 10 times better than the emi recording with Gheorghin & Alagna. Ive seen the opera live 3 times and i am i
s number one fan. It kills me every time i listen to it (everyday!). OK it has faults. But Try sitting down with the libreto, your missing one of Puccinis great works (& sadly neglected)

What a great website. Stars may come and stars may go, but there is only one Anna Moffo! The last of the great prima donnas! [I know it should be prime donne - but, whatever.] To all those out there who saw her onstage as Violetta, I tell you, I really en
y you all. One of Miss Moffo's most delightful recordings is "La mia voce per Venezia" which is a selection of Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi songs to piano accompaniment, which she made for the Venice in Peril foundation. I listen to it often. Let
s all wish Miss Moffo a very Happy Birthday for later in June! She's really special.

Hi,
Just bought a CD of Anna Moffo as Carmen.
I never thought of her in that role. In fact, I was rather dubious. But her performance as Carmen was just excellent!!! I was really amazed. For a woman who was noted for her great lyric roles she was an excellent Carmen.
Bert
Now it is one of my favorite recordings.

Dear Mark,
Anna Moffo was my fist love....
and I'm still looking for some records which are not available on CD such as there are LA JUIVE (Highlights) from Halévy or Songs of DEBUSSY. Rumour has it that she has also registered I Pagliacci at the Vienna Volksoper (I'm Austrian, but this record is
owhere available). Do you know if she ever registered Norinas Aria So anch'io la virtů magica... or O mio babbino caro?? Are there some other registrations existing of which I do not know???
I would really appreciate your reply....
Best greetings from Vienna
Norbert

I used to be obsessed with Leontyne Price (still am maybe) but Anna Moffo is now tops. Your information shows your discerning insight for a beautiful voice. I'm thinking of compiling a selection of recordings called "Moffo in Distress" in which I will gro
p her operatic distress scenes: Ah buon Marcello aiuto, aiuto...(La Boheme); Teneste la promesa...(La Traviata); Allora, Allora...(L'amore dei tre re); and the final scene duo from Luisa Miller with Bergonzi. You've inspired my confidence that this is not
an abnormality.

My collection of LPs, CDs, videos, tapes exceeds 70 spanning 1955 to 1978. I heard her live dozens of times between 1960 and 1987?
Anyway, your web site is terrific.

Excellent Moffo profile. Saw her as Violetta 1967, also dazzled by her beauty. Unfortunately when I saw her again in late 70s (Violetta, Nedda) her "crooning" had began. A Carnegie Hall recital in late 70s was knocked by critics but I enjoyed it immens
ly.
Of that era I also like Schwartzkopf and Lucine Amara, the latter in a very interesting though vocally miscast AIDA.
Thanks, bud,
Ron

Great and very interesting site, may I name a few mezzo's that would be an asset and were missed, Dolora Zajick a brilliant Amneris, Christa Ludwig marvelous in any role that she tackles and Faith Esham, although I love Cecilia Bartoli in Mozart and Rossi
i roles she could not tackle the roles these others do. Agree with remarks re Joan Sutherland ever tried following a libretto with her Italian pronounciation?

At last! Someone who loves Moffo's voice as much as I do!
I've been "hooked on Moffo" ever since I heard her "La Traviata" with Tucker and Merrill.
I give her a lot of credit for my love of opera. It was her beautiful voice that encouraged me to continue to listen to and study opera.
I had the honor of meeting her in 1978 and found her to be a very gracious, beautiful woman.
