Jennifer's C. V.

Jennifer Maines-Chamandy has attracted attention on both sides of the Atlantic with her rich lyric soprano and dynamic stage presence. In the words of Viennás Der Neue Merker opera critic Dietmar Plattner, “there stands a real Diva on the stage”. (Review for Powder Her Face-March 2004)

Born in Montreal, Canada, Jennifer began her musical studies at the young age of 13 singing her first ever operetta role of Yum Yum in The Mikado. She went on to study voice with Charlotte Stewart in Ottawa. After showing enormous talent Jennifer continued her studies at the University of Toronto. While studying with William Neill she completed a Bachelor Degree of Music with Honours specializing in Vocal Performance. She went on to complete the 2 year Opera Diploma where she studied dance and acting and had numerous performing opportunities. Jennifer began singing professionally in concerts, oratorios and operettas. Wanting to continue her musical education, Jennifer attended the McGill University in Montreal studying again under William Neill and Dixie Ross Neill.

After relocating to Amsterdam with her tenor husband Dan Chamandy, Jennifer sang with the International Opera Centrum Nederlands (I.O.C.N.) and the Transparent Music Theater in Belgium. Now living in Innsbruck, Austria, Jennifer has been an ensemble member of the Tiroler Landestheater (TLT) since May of 2003. Under the artistic leadership of the world renowned mezzo soprano KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Jennifer has delighted the Innsbruck audience showing her versatility, flexibility and solid stage presence.

Highlights in Innsbruck include the title role in Salome, The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, The Duchess in Powder Her Face, Helena in A Midsummer Night́s Dream, and Sylva Varescu in Die Csardasfürstin.
Other TLT roles include The First Lady in Mozart́s Magic Flute, La Comtesse in Massenet́s Chérubin, Laura in Der Bettelstudent, Brunnhilde in Die Lustigen Nibelungen, Alcina in E.Streuĺs adaptation from Handeĺs opera and an understudy of Elisabeth in Don Carlos. Jennifer also performed both Axinja and the Zwangsarbeiterin in Lady Macbeth von Mzensk by Shostakovich, the latter of which she sang in a daýs notice in Wiesbaden making her debut there.

Other roles highlighting Ms.Chamandýs career include, the title role in Madama Butterfly, sung for the Pacific Opera Victoria, Mississauga Opera, and Kingston Symphony. Violetta for the Kingston Symphony, Konstanze for the Toronto Philharmonic, and the Hunstville Festival. The title role in Carlisle Floyd́s Susannah for Opera in Concert, Katherine, the shrew, in The Taming of the Shrew by Gianinni for the Pacific Opera Victoria, and the First Lady in the Magic Flute for Opera Lyra Ottawa.

Jennifer Chamandy has also enjoyed much success on the concert stage. She has sung with the Tiroler Landestheater Orchestra, the Amsterdam Promenade Orchestra, the Transparent Music Theater Belgium, the Toronto Operetta Theater, the Toronto Philharmonia, the Brampton Symphony, the Quinte Symphony, the McGill Symphony, and Ottawás Thirteen Strings.
