NYANSA is an enchanting and mesmerizing group of women who perform the ancient art of North African dance. Derived from an African concept, NYANSA's name represents the Queen Mother's scepter called a Nyansa Pow, a staff with a wisdom knot tied in its center. The Queen Mother's principles gave birth to elements and cosmic forces.....life, fertility, renewal, dance, song and music. This group reflects an earth-based lyrical art form that entertains and inspires.

The founder and artistic director of NYANSA, Camila Karam (far left), is committed to exploring old and new forms of movement that honors all life as expressions of nature. In this spirit Camila aims to create, entertain, and inform.

Camila Karam received her BA in Wholistic Medicine and Ethnic Dance from New College of California in San Francisco. She is accompanied by Taisha Parrott (center), a Howard University graduate and gifted ceramist and Cheryl Fields (far right), a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and the University of S. California. Cheryl is also the Managing Editor of "Black Issues in Higher Education" magazine.

NYANSA is a Washington, DC based group and is available to perform for any event requiring entertainment!
