• Michael Thompson uses a Paxman Model 40 B flat/F alto horn.
• The natural horn he uses is the first one that Paxmans made, with the serial number 1 on the bell.
• He is the principal horn of the London Sinfonietta.
• He started playing the horn at the age of 13, and when he was 18, he was appointed the principal horn at the BBC Scotish Symphony Orchestra.
• At 21, he became the principal horn of the Philharmonia.
• 10 years later, he gave up being an orchestral player to become a soloist.
• At 44 years old, he is one of the top soloists in the world.
