I had a late start this morning (since I had a late night last night). I goofed off a little, went down to the pool and finally got my act together enough to go for a little walk in search of food and pictures.
I decided I would walk down to the waterfront (the west shore) and head for the Concert Hall. As I mentioned before, the Westside seems to be the richer, more picturesque part of town. I crossed one of the bridges to the north and walked down the other side of the river. This is pretty typical of the view across the river to the old town. | |
The concert hall is a new building, just on the other side of the river. The front of the building faces north, creating a main entrance both on the parking lot side and on the river side. It is welcoming no matter how you approach it. I'm happily surprised how the people here regard musicians. The Hall is clearly a big clean building in a prime location, which already is a huge hint to the importance of music here. Also after last night's concert and again this evening, there is a reception for the performers as a "danke" for sharing the music with them. (It's how the world should be.) |

This picture was originally really dark, but I've edited it so it mostly looks like the hall from the stage. As you can see it's a modern hall with blonde paneling and a huge stage area. I like the acoustic although I have no idea if it was flattering or not. Tonight's concert went really well. It was the last time we'll be performing the Ravel and it felt like everyone was playing with a little more abandon. Both the Stravinsky and the Ravel were a personal best. (What a lift from last night.) |
