EDUCATION

 October 1997-present

       University of Durham (Ph.D. research)

"Studies on the non mevalonate terpene pathway " (Supervisor: Professor D. O'Hagan)

1-Deoxy-D-xylulose phosphate has recently been shown to be a key intermediate in terpenoid biosynthesis. The project has included synthesis of isotopically labelled (13C, 2H) precursors and feeding of plant (Mentha citrata) and bacterial (E. coli) cultures. Whole cell and cell free experiments have been carried out to elucidate features of the new pathway.
