        "Studies on the non mevalonate terpene pathway " (Supervisor: Professor D. O'Hagan)

1-Deoxy-D-xylulose phosphate has recently been shown to be a key intermediate in terpenoid biosynthesis. The project has included synthesis of isotopically labelled (¹³C, ²H) precursors and feeding of plant (Mentha citrata) and bacterial (E. coli) cultures. Whole cell and cell free experiments have been carried out to elucidate features of the new pathway.
