ABOUT THE DIRECTOR


Artistic Director Dr. Mark E. Hudson
is currently Chair of the Department
of Music at Colorado State University - Pueblo.
Dr. Hudson has been active as a conductor,
singer, horn player, and music educator since
1981, and as a musician and performer since his youth. Now in his seventh year at CSU - Pueblo, Dr. Hudson holds
the Master of Music in Conducting and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Music Education with an emphasis in
conducting from the University of Florida, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Harding University, where
he studied voice with Ken Davis and Erle T. Moore. While at the University of Florida, he taught as a graduate
teaching assistant for the Department of Music, and studied conducting with David Waybright, Ronald Burrichter, and
Russell Robinson.

Prior to taking the position at CSU - Pueblo, Dr. Hudson served as Chair of the Department of Music at Limestone
College in Gaffney, South Carolina. While at Limestone, Dr. Hudson was Director of Bands, taught conducting and
trained future music educators, and was also active as a guest conductor and clinician in the public schools of the
Carolinas as well as elsewhere in the Southeast. Under his direction, the music program grew and flourished,
reaching its highest enrollment in over 10 years and successfully completing a ten-year accreditation effort. During
this period, he also served as conductor of the Spartanburg Community Band and the Limestone College Community
Chorus.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Hudson returned to the public schools in Florida as Director of Bands
and Choral Activities at Santa Fe High School. While in this position, he began his graduate work, and subsequently
taught at Buchholz High School as Director of Choral Activities and Fort Clarke Middle School as Director of Bands. In
all, he taught in the public schools of Florida for 15 years before returning to Harding University as a member of the
music faculty and Assistant Director of Bands in 1992.

Besides his extensive conducting experience, Dr. Hudson enjoys performing on horn and as a baritone, preferring
jazz as a means of vocal musical expression. Dr. Hudson is on the Board of Directors of the Pueblo Symphony
Orchestra, and serves as Education Chair for the Colorado Music Fest. He looks forward to fostering the
collaboration, cooperation, and coordination of arts activities in Pueblo as well as being active in the public schools as
a liaison and resource. A native of Florida, he is married to the former Ann Hummel, with whom he has a son,
Carter. Now residents of Pueblo, the family is appreciative of the excellent artistic, educational, and recreational
opportunities in the area, and consider themselves fortunate to be a part of this community.
