How does one encapsulate a whole year in a page or two?
By adding a few pictures, we can at least save a few thousand words,
if the old proverb is true. Unfortunately, there are no movies here, otherwise
that would give us a few million words' credit... And no thumbnails either,
so you will have to read the brief descriptions of our photographs
before you venture to load them. We have been blessed with so much this past year.
The fact that we can even write and send this type of letter is proof
.
As always, our greatest joy is our Calle, the "Millenium Kid". So nearly
everything here is centred around his various experiences in 2005, which
also involved us adults, too! We had a few fun times in the snow. Once it melted,
however, it was soccer-time for Calle.
Training
began early, with Cynthia directing our future star on the finer points
of dribbling (Nils could have done it, but he was too busy wielding the
camera!)
In any event, Calle was soon master
of the game
, and during the summer season he thrilled us with many
break-aways
and goals
. The heat and humidity were sometimes trying, but we persevered.
Fortunately, we were able to travel to more agreeable climes (i.e.north) during our vacation: from Montreal to Thunder Bay and back.
Along the way, we camped at Temagami Lake. More specifically, Findlayson
Point Provincial Park, which is one of our favorite spots. It's a
day's drive from Montreal. On the spur of the moment, we took a 20-minute
scenic tour in a Cessna-172
! We camped at several other provincial parks in Ontario and we were able
to engage in some of our favourite summer pastimes: canoing and a little
fishing
.
We drove as far as Thunder Bay, Ontario, where we visited Farmor (Siv),
and the ever-hospitable Dan and Janet and their
kids
. Cynthia exercised her acrobatic skills
leaping the chasm
at the Cascades
.
Upon our return, it was back to the old
grind
. We did find time for some cycling around the West Island area of Montreal,
among other things. We stopped for lunch at the
site of a 1600's battle
between the French and Iroquois.
Calle had to work hard raking leaves
in the fall. In October he and Nils went on a canoe trip together in Mont
Tremblant Park. After paddling a long way, accompanied by our friends Grace,
Joar, Eva and David, we hiked up to 'Chut des Rats' or
Muskrat Falls
.
It wouldn't be complete if we didn't mention our musical experiences. We
continue to play in the Lakeshore Concert Band, and this year Calle has once
again proven his mettle as sleigh-bell soloist
. We played two Christmas concerts, one with the LCB, and another with an
impromptu band that our friend Lorraine organized. This second concert enabled
a reunion of three
of the five TRUMPET GODS; the latter being an unforgetable component of
the 1996 LCB Great Britain Tour.
