Introduction
Some years ago Dowling College tested a fascinating idea: creating an atmosphere for personal growth by providing the staff, facilities and services to help individuals reach their unique goals. Students and our academic community participated in the experiment. Guess what we discovered!
With the right conditions people develop in remarkable ways, creating a rich environment that attracts more students, talents and resources to generate exciting educational opportunities.
As The Personal College®, we want to help you grow so we have day, evening and weekend classes to accommodate you. Our Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences, Education, and Aviation and Transportation offer programs for Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business Administration Degrees.
Dowling and Its Element
Originated in 1955, Dowling is Suffolk County's first four-year college. It's also one of the country's fastest growing colleges. The main campus is nestled on 52 acres along the banks of the Connetquot River (shown in the photo above) on the south shore of Long Island. (Did you know that Long Island is the largest island adjoining the continental United States?)
The focal point of our Oakdale campus is Fortunoff Hall. Built at the turn of the century by industrial magnate William K. Vanderbilt, this exquisitely preserved mansion contains administrative and faculty offices, as well as ornately designed ceremonial rooms now used for meetings and lectures.
About 50 miles east of midtown Manhattan, our picturesque campus is within easy reach of New York City's theaters and museums and just minutes from Long Island's beautiful beaches, parks, recreational facilities and cultural attractions.
Campus Tours
We invite you to visit our campus. You'll have a better sense of Dowling
community life after a guided tour of the Oakdale campus and its academic
computer center, library, instructional media center, performing arts center,
cafe, bookstore, student residences and the Curtin Student Center. On the
first floor of the student center is the gym, home to many intramural activities.
Incidentally, Dowling is the proud sponsor of Long Island's only college crew team, as well as the award-winning Lion Escadrille Precision Flying Team.If you'd like to pilot your career path toward aviation, the National Aviation and Transportation Center® is another site worth a visit. It houses our School of Aviation and Transportation. Just contact the Enrollment Services Office to arrange a tour and meet with an academic advisor.
Individual advisement is part of our commitment to pupils. Remember to bring all your questions because the more you know about Dowling, the better prepared you'll be when deciding where to pursue your baccalaureate.
Classrooms
The classrooms are mostly in the Racanelli and the Kramer Science Centers.
Sitting in on a class or talking with a professor in a specific discipline
