In May 2002 Herb took early retirement from the federal government, where he had been a senior economist with the U.S. Public Health Service's Bureau of Health Professions. I am still a research scientist at Gallaudet University. Franz has begun a master's program at Georgetown Univerity's School of Foreign Service.

We are still busy with the Alpine Dancers & Singers, our Viennese waltz lessons, and our board positions with local organizations, among them the Washington Saengerbund and the Association of German American Societies.

Family History Update

I've entered much of the Bloomquist-Peterson-Johnson (Swedish and Swedish-American) information I have into a genealogy computer program, Roots III (this is definitely not an endorsement!) [I just found the site www.bridgetosweden.com that you may also find interesting.] I can share a summary with relatives interested in contributing additional information or making suggestions. I'm planning on upgrading to a state-of-the-art computer program in the year 2000, and will begin adding photographs and planning for audio and video selections. When I have the new computer program, I'll begin entering the Langhammer-Heisler-Häusler and Kreuziger-Prause-Bubik (Austrian/German) information gathered over the years. I have a brief summary of relatives of Johann/John Langhammer (b. Rothwasser* d. Bayfield, WI) which I can share now with interested relatives. [Carol, 1998]
