    Mark Horner (1973-1998)

Mark Woolman Horner died as a result of a homicide at his home in San Antonio, TX on Monday, December 14, 1998. He was born in Bar Harbor, ME on August 24, 1973. He graduated from Mount Desert High School in 1991 and went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in Music in 1995 at The Juilliard School in New York City.

Mark was a gifted musician who was principal trombonist in the San Antonio Symphony at the time of his death. When Mark was a toddler he was fascinated by music and often fell asleep by the stereo speakers. In high school he played with the Empire Brass Quintet and the Greater Boston Youth Symphony. In these efforts he was supported by the community at large.

At Juilliard he was privileged to study under Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, a guiding spirit for Mark's brief and promising career.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Woolman; his father and stepmother, William and Nina Horner; and his sister, Lara Horner and Wayne Gray, all of Bar Harbor. Also surviving are his sister, Amy and James Munson of Brooklyn, NY and their children, Helena and Tarzan; his brother, R. Christian Horner and wife Alexandra of Los Angeles, CA; his maternal grandparents, Mildred and Charles Woolman of Elmer, NJ; and his paternal grandmother, Beatrice Louise Horner of Ben Harbor. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, W. Rea Horner. Three step-siblings, Jennifer Judd-McGee, Kathy Judd Gonda, and Samuel Judd, survive him as well as many dear aunts, uncles and cousins.

He formed deep friendships in every avenue of his life, and all mourn his loss.

A service of Celebration of the life of Mark Horner under the care of Acadia Friends Meeting will occur on Saturday, December 19, 1998, at St. Saviour's Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor at 1:00 P.M. Arrangements were made by Fernald's Funeral Home.
