and growing, thanks!
The people YOU elected, the COUNCIL/AGENCY, are STILL negotiating (as of Sept. 6, 2000) with OliverMcMillan (IN SECRET)! No conclusions have been reached YET? Wouldn't you like to know what is going on? Will you be told "they" have reached a "better" arrangement! Better for WHOM? Will it be "better" like PLAYA VISTA? PLEASE, stay informed!!
It is interesting to note, Las Vegas, a tourist "Mecca",
and with a million population, and development running
rampant, providing millions of dollars to Redevelopment
Agency coffers, is anteing a pittance compared to our
local investment.
Let's just look at a few figures: Las Vegas, population
over 25 times the size of Culver City, invests $32 million
in 16 screens, 3,000 seats!
Culver City: Latest COMPLETE figure will total just about
$32 million, also. (Where is the money coming from?)
This is for 16 screens and over 3000 seats!
Somebody, somewhere, explain the logic to me! Please!
If you have questions, call a City Councilperson.
This is about much more than money! Pray tell, where do
you find, anywhere 3000 seats! 16 screens! within 350 feet
of a grammar school? YES! 300 FEET!
This is about a, albeit flawed! but nevertheless a
certified EIR (FEIR, if you will) that has UNMITIGABLE,
BUT ACCEPTABLE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY HAZARDS. (Read
this on Culver City's own website, accessible from
Your elected City Council feels auto exhaust, noise, crowds,
traffic, all impossible to "mitigate" is justified by "overriding
benefits", ie money. Childrens' health for MONEY!
Please, LEARN about the initiative!
Thanks for taking this extra time, here!

Is there a difference, to you, between the City of Culver
City, and the Culver City Redevelopment Agency?
How much debt is there, now? Who is going to pay? How
much money is your Council/Agency paying/bribing
businesses to locate, remodel or whatever? The debt is
over 35 million dollars? Is this what closed sessions are
all about?
Think about: has the (night time, residential) population
changed in the last 30 years? Have the number of city
employees changed in the last 30 years? Who are they
serving? Is our City Hall primarily for the commercial,
industrial and business community. It is very possible
that it is!
Is this quiet, restful, tree-filled small "town" becoming
a raging additional "core" for LOS ANGELES, with
everything you came here to escape?
Visualize, if you will, this street filled with cars,
looking for a place to park! EVERY DAY, ALL DAY!
I do not understand the "posture" or "decorum" of our City
Council. This is why we have not one or two, but 3 and
possibly four citizen groups at "WAR". At least one, is
trying
to
"DESTROY" one other group.
You might examine the "CITIZENS FOR A LIVABLE CULVER CITY"
and the "Culver City Community Network". The "CCCN" can
be reached by a link from the "CLCC"! (This will be found
just below.)
Does this suggest "unity" in a community?
I ask "Why are these groups necessary?"
And now, there is a group, unofficially sponsored? by the
council, itself! called "ABC"! Can you believe this?
"Alliance for a Better City". The audacity is
unbelievable! I believe this group is bent on destroying
at least one other group!!!
There are other community groups, in this city of 40,000
in a five square mile area!
The clock is ticking!
It is time now, to get involved!
If not now, when?
(when it's too late!)
Are you concerned about the future of CULVER CITY?
(Read the traffic/parking report paid for by your elected
City Council, with YOUR money!)
So far, less than 2,000 spaces for parking, spread over
about a six block area??? are planned! How about parking
for existing businesses, and a future CULVER THEATER? (Parking is presently provided in CITY HALL GARAGE.
This over three thousand seat complex is planned
within 300 feet of a grammar school! (I ask, IS THIS
LEGAL? AND, if it is, why?)
WAKE UP, CULVER CITY. Where do you think over 10,000
people (on a commercially GOOD day) will come from? And
what kind of movies will attract a crowd like that?
Why has this City Council (acting as the Redevelopment
Agency) persisted in negotiating for three (3) years,
excluding any other possible alternative?
Is it possible, our downtown area of approximately six
square blocks or less! will in all probability be
completely strangled with traffic and noise and
pollution? And, IT WILL BE PERMANENT, for you, for me,
AND THE CHILDREN in the neighborhood and in the school!
You can look forward to future respiratory problems! at
the very least!

WAKE UP, CULVER CITY! Is this WESTWOOD? Just how many
of those projected 4,000 will "dine" and "shop" in
addition to "going to the movies"? (One seating! - And,
wouldn't you expect at least three shows, daily?)
Each day brings us closer to a total loss of our city to
"special interests"!
Your city budget is out of control, as it rapidly
approaches $2,500 per person, every man, woman, and child,
per year!
Do you know what costs so much money?
Traffic is increasing, as this is written!
As the corridors through our "little" community are
widened to allow for greater traffic flow, what do you
think happens?
This, in turn, increases our "daytime population". What
do you think that produces?
Litigation is costing our community an average of a half
million dollars a year! (This is a VERY conservative
figure!)
Whatever open space exists, is being gobbled up for
development, increasing either density with more
residents, or DENSITY AND TRAFFIC, with more business!
None of this is improving your quality of life, or
PROTECTING YOUR INVESTMENT IN YOUR PROPERTY!
In the meantime, the few parks we do have, are becoming
more and more crowded, with each passing day!
When was the last time YOU attended a City Council or
Redevelopment Agency meeting? Have you ever watched a
meeting on television or listened to one on the radio?
Already, I am observing our citizens being "discounted"
when they approach the speakers podium at Council/Agenda
meetings!
I am observing individuals "positioning" (affiliating
with the "right" organizations), for future POLITICAL
AMBITIONS!
Are you willing to see a small group "take over" Culver
City, as was the case, not too many years ago?
"ALL" our elected officials should be "ACCOUNTABLE"!
FACT: Last election, nowhere near 30% of eligible voters,
actually participated in our local election!
I hope, soon, to detail all of the information.
PLEASE, help me "get the word out"!
